Justice Thomas agrees to halt Graham testimony in Georgia election probe

BY JOHN KRUZEL - 10/24/22 12:25 PM ET

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas on Monday granted Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R-S.C.) request to temporarily shield the South Carolina Republican from testifying in probe of alleged pro-Trump election interference in Georgia.

The move comes after Graham on Friday filed a request to Thomas, who handles emergency matters arising from Georgia, and follows a ruling by a lower appeals court declining to halt Graham’s testimony before a Fulton County, Ga., special grand jury.

The court this weekend requested a response from Fulton County, which is due on Thursday, so it is likely the Supreme Court will act again in the case soon. Thomas has the option to handle the application himself or refer the matter to the full court.

Don't care which side they're on, I don't like anyone outside a federal court compelling testimony out of elected Congressional officials simply because they demand it.

Way too easily abused by little tinpot state, city and county partisan DAs and judges.

Supreme Court declines Graham's request to block testimony in Fulton County investigation

The Supreme Court rejected a request by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on Tuesday to block a subpoena to testify in a Fulton County, Georgia, grand jury investigation on efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

The decision came just one week after Justice Clarence Thomas temporarily ruled to halt him from testifying. The high court's ruling on Tuesday leaves no legal impediments standing in the way of Graham's appearance before the grand jury, which is now slated for Nov. 17.

Still, the justices wrote in their order that Graham could still raise objections to some questions asked of him.

Graham's office issued a statement following the rejection saying he intends to "engage with" the grand jury.
