Kanye West enters agreement to acquire social media app Parler

Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, has agreed in principle to acquire the social media platform Parler, the company said.

The deal comes a week after his accounts on Twitter and Instagram were locked due to antisemitic comments he made on the apps, including saying in a tweet he would go "death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE." In a press release announcing the deal, Ye spoke on the right to free expression.

"In a world where conservative opinions are considered to be controversial we have to make sure we have the right to freely express ourselves," Ye said in a statement.

George Farmer, CEO of Parlement Technologies, said the deal would "change the world" in a statement Monday.

"This deal will change the world, and change the way the world thinks about free speech. Ye is making a groundbreaking move into the free speech media space and will never have to fear being removed from social media again. Once again, Ye proves that he is one step ahead of the legacy media narrative. Parlement will be honored to help him achieve his goals," Farmer said.

The company says Ye and Parler intend to get into a "definitive purchase agreement" and close the deal "during the fourth quarter of 2022." The terms of the agreement were not shared by Ye or the company.

Parler made headlines in January 2021 after Apple and Google removed the app from their app stores and Amazon Web Services removed the service from its cloud computing services, all citing that the company had not done enough to stop or block posts inciting the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. Google and Apple have since reinstated Parler in their app stores.

Does anybody still use Parler?
For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16
