I'm first generation so I think I know how you feel, but also it's that at least for me it was a different time in the America of my youth. Not just a different era, but a totally different place as far as respect for God and country, the pride wasn't just something taught by parents and (even teachers) back then but you could feel it in your bones. We had TV personalities who signed of with 'God Bless', more than a few and even 'movie stars', the real ones before Fonda and Vietnam, who despite what their personal view was they kept it to themselves or the studios would put the hurt on them. Now the communist have succeeded in decades of brainwashing our kids and taking over entertainment.
I went to Brooklyn schools. Couldn’t speak the language and there were no special classes in English. But, I learned the language quickly and I learned it in class, reciting the pledge of allegiance, listening to lessons in history and learning from classmates, friends, television and movies.
The point is that teachers in the public schools back then infused their students with patriotism, it was part of nearly every lesson—from science class to geography to social studies—and to your point, so too did the entertainment industry back then respect and celebrate patriots and patriotism.
Donald Trump, in his early school years, was also a product of the New York school system. The same system that instilled in me, a (legal) immigrant, a love for America. So, I see where Trump learned his American history and his love for America. It came through in important ways while he was president and explains some of his success as president.
