Ya, rainwater that is coming down the gutters not so much ....  but ... catching rainwater in a clean bucket... it can always be boiled??

It doesn't need to be boiled. It's been naturally distilled, for Pete's sake.

Not quite distilled.  It started that way when it started from the cloud, bet then it percolates through an atmosphere loaded with bad things.

Not after 10 or 15 minutes of heavy rain... And certainly not even that out here.

In any case, the parts per million will be far less than city water.

Yup!  Never been in a pipe.

Man all those people that back in the day that had cisterns to store rain water must feel real stupid. /s

The house I grew up in was built in 1910 and it had a cistern.  We didn't use it for drinking water but that water was cold as hell!

The house I grew up in was built in 1910 and it had a cistern.  We didn't use it for drinking water but that water was cold as hell!

We drank from a hand dug rock lined well for our first ten years in Montana. Hard water... lime... but good. Then the old man drilled a well and covered over the and dug well... but the drilled well turned rusty and it's been that way ever since.
