Harry and Meghan really hurt the Queen...damn them!

Maybe Charles is more forgiving..

I hope Charles honors his mother's wishes and eliminates Harry and Markle.  IMO the hurt and humility that they caused her is unforgivable.  Harry couldn't make it on time to see his grandmother before she died?  He knew she wasn't in good health and could have made his trip in the area a day or two early and taken the opportunity to visit her.  He left early before her Jubilee was over too.

Also, I read that Camilla was not looking forward to Harry's book release; perhaps with the Queen passing beforehand it saved her from some more hurt.

At the end of the day Harry has to live with what he's done. The man has some serious soul searching to do.

"Senior family members are expected to follow behind .... (the coffin)"

The Queen reduced this list to a  "Firm of Eight" --- Prince Edward, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, Kate Middleton, Prince William, the Queen, Prince Charles, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and Princess Anne. (No Andrew, Harry or Markle)

It wil be interesting to see if the King reduces it to a "Firm of Seven" now that the Queen has passed.

I wonder where her other grandchildren will be, I know she was very fond of Anne’s children as well as Andrew’s daughters

I’m glad Edward and Sophie are more visible in the last couple of years

I read that in the book Harry *wrote* he blames Camilla for the marriage break-up of Charles and Diana

I don't know about that @mystery-ak  ---- The king has been quite PO'd with Harry --- and he has to take William's wishes and concerns into consideration.  Charles may give Harry what he wanted and honor his mother's wishes.

Harry, the last to arrive and first to leave Balmoral, may be understanding the ramifications of his choices ----

@Right_in_Virginia

I feel the same.  My dad and the Queen shared the same birthday.  He was one year older than her and passed in 2021.  Her passing seemed as if she was one of the family.

Yes, I keep thinking of my mother, who was born in 1925. So few of that generation - the WWII generation - left.

A fascinating obit in The Times.
Snippet:
Quote
... With her parents so often away, Elizabeth saw much of her grandparents, an arrangement that delighted them. During a three-month stay at Buckingham Palace, she would be brought down for tea every day with the King and Queen. “Here comes the Bambino!” the normally stiff Queen Mary would declare. According to some reports, the King used to play with his granddaughter in a way that he never did with his own children: he called her Lilibet, in imitation of her attempts to say her name. Her family called her Lilibet ever after.  ...

The Abdication crisis that followed, when Edward VIII decided that he could not continue as King if he could not marry the twice-divorced Simpson, had such a devastating impact on the royal family that its repercussions are still felt today. It was suffered most immediately by Bertie, who did not want to be king, was rendered thoroughly miserable as the drama unfolded, and implored his elder brother to stay. When the decision was finally made Bertie, appalled by the burden facing him, broke down in tears on his mother’s shoulder.

Elizabeth was now next in line to the throne. “When our father became King,” Margaret recalled, “I said to her, ‘Does that mean you’re going to become Queen?’ She replied, ‘Yes, I suppose it does.’ She didn’t mention it again.” According to her governess, Marion Crawford — “Crawfie” — Elizabeth was horrified to learn that they were to move to Buckingham Palace: “What — you mean for ever?” ...

Kate Middleton spotted for first time since death of Queen Elizabeth II

Kate Middleton was spotted for the first time since Queen Elizabeth's death was announced Thursday.

Middleton did not travel to Scotland to be by the queen's side with her husband Prince William. The couple's kids had their first day at a new school on Thursday.

Middleton wore sunglasses as she was photographed inside a vehicle at Windsor. Her departure came after Prince Harry arrived back from Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

Kate Middleton likely to take on Princess Diana's former title

Kate Middleton is likely to take on the late Princess Diana's former title as Princess of Wales following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

When Charles became king, his former title of Prince of Wales became available. Charles' eldest son, Prince William, and now official heir to the throne, could be offered his father's former title.

Ultimately, this would make Middleton, now the Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge, the Princess of Wales. This special title was last used by Charles' then-wife, Princess Diana, who died in 1997 at age 36.

I'm guessing that there's been some tears in her eyes, hidden by sunglasses.

I am hoping that she will be given Diana's title;  the Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge, the Princess of Wales.  I think she has earned it!  She is beautiful, graceful and exudes royalty.

King Charles III delivers first address after Queen Elizabeth II's death

King Charles III will address the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth for the first time Friday following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

He called Queen Elizabeth an "inspiration" and an "example" for him.

"That promise of lifelong service I renew to all today," Charles said.

He noted that Queen Elizabeth II made a promise to live a life of service to the UK and Commonwealth on her 21st birthday.

"That was more than a promise," the new king admitted. "It was a profound personal commitment which defined her whole life. She made sacrifices for duty. her dedication, and devotion were soveriegn never wavered through change and progress sadness and loss.

King Charles III pledged "to uphold the constitutional principles at the heart of our nation."

He promised to serve "with loyalty, respect and love as i have throughout my life."

The new king also touched on Queen Consort Camilla's "steadfast devotion to duty" that he "relies on."

He gave his son William the title of Prince of Wales - a title he held before he became king - during the address. Kate Middleton will now hold the title of Princess of Wales.

King Charles III also gave his love to his younger son Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle.

He ended his speech by thanking his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The queen died Thursday at Balmoral Castle in Scotland at the age of 96. Members of the royal family traveled to Scotland to be with the queen after doctors placed her under medical supervision over health concerns earlier Thursday.

Well, Harry gave up his title. He walked away from the family.  So be it.  Obviously Charles is grieving and probably has been grieving over Harry's choices.  So be it.  Wasn't that the Queen's decision to strip Harry of duties?

Also, Harry and Markle decided that they didn't want their children to have royal titles.

Charles may change this, but I don't see him going against the Queen's final wishes and decisions.

Charles III's speech in full

'I speak to you today with feelings of profound sorrow. Throughout her life, Her Majesty The Queen - my beloved Mother - was an inspiration and example to me and to all my family, and we owe her the most heartfelt debt any family can owe to their mother; for her love, affection, guidance, understanding and example.

'Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is mourned most deeply in her passing. That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today.

'Alongside the personal grief that all my family are feeling, we also share with so many of you in the United Kingdom, in all the countries where The Queen was Head of State, in the Commonwealth and across the world, a deep sense of gratitude for the more than 70 years in which my Mother, as Queen, served the people of so many nations.

'In 1947, on her 21st birthday, she pledged in a broadcast from Cape Town to the Commonwealth to devote her life, whether it be short or long, to the service of her peoples. That was more than a promise: it was a profound personal commitment which defined her whole life. She made sacrifices for duty.

'Her dedication and devotion as Sovereign never waivered, through times of change and progress, through times of joy and celebration, and through times of sadness and loss.

'In her life of service we saw that abiding love of tradition, together with that fearless embrace of progress, which make us great as Nations. The affection, admiration and respect she inspired became the hallmark of her reign.

'And, as every member of my family can testify, she combined these qualities with warmth, humour and an unerring ability always to see the best in people.

'I pay tribute to my Mother's memory and I honour her life of service. I know that her death brings great sadness to so many of you and I share that sense of loss, beyond measure, with you all.

'When The Queen came to the throne, Britain and the world were still coping with the privations and aftermath of the Second World War, and still living by the conventions of earlier times. In the course of the last 70 years we have seen our society become one of many cultures and many faiths.

'The institutions of the State have changed in turn. But, through all changes and challenges, our nation and the wider family of Realms - of whose talents, traditions and achievements I am so inexpressibly proud - have prospered and flourished. Our values have remained, and must remain, constant.

'The role and the duties of Monarchy also remain, as does the Sovereign's particular relationship and responsibility towards the Church of England - the Church in which my own faith is so deeply rooted.

'In that faith, and the values it inspires, I have been brought up to cherish a sense of duty to others, and to hold in the greatest respect the precious traditions, freedoms and responsibilities of our unique history and our system of parliamentary government.

'As The Queen herself did with such unswerving devotion, I too now solemnly pledge myself, throughout the remaining time God grants me, to uphold the Constitutional principles at the heart of our nation.

'And wherever you may live in the United Kingdom, or in the Realms and territories across the world, and whatever may be your background or beliefs, I shall endeavour to serve you with loyalty, respect and love, as I have throughout my life. My life will of course change as I take up my new responsibilities.

'It will no longer be possible for me to give so much of my time and energies to the charities and issues for which I care so deeply. But I know this important work will go on in the trusted hands of others.

'This is also a time of change for my family. I count on the loving help of my darling wife, Camilla. In recognition of her own loyal public service since our marriage 17 years ago, she becomes my Queen Consort.

'I know she will bring to the demands of her new role the steadfast devotion to duty on which I have come to rely so much. As my Heir, William now assumes the Scottish titles which have meant so much to me.

'He succeeds me as Duke of Cornwall and takes on the responsibilities for the Duchy of Cornwall which I have undertaken for more than five decades. Today, I am proud to create him Prince of Wales, Tywysog Cymru, the country whose title I have been so greatly privileged to bear during so much of my life and duty.

'With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the centre ground where vital help can be given. I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas.

'In a little over a week's time we will come together as a nation, as a Commonwealth and indeed a global community, to lay my beloved mother to rest. In our sorrow, let us remember and draw strength from the light of her example.

'On behalf of all my family, I can only offer the most sincere and heartfelt thanks for your condolences and support. They mean more to me than I can ever possibly express.

'And to my darling Mama, as you begin your last great journey to join my dear late Papa, I want simply to say this: thank you.

'Thank you for your love and devotion to our family and to the family of nations you have served so diligently all these years. May 'flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest'.'

Charles gave a very wonderful and heartfelt tribute.  His Moma will be missed.   8888crybaby

He mentions Harry and Markle being overseas and I think that was his way of saying, they will hold no titles or duties.  Good for Charles.

Question @mystery-ak do you know if Kate will hold all the titles that Diana did??
