Finnish economist: “I am telling you people that the situation in Europe is much worse than many understand”

Says Tuomas Malinen. Adds Murtaza Hussain of The Intercept: “If you turned the electricity off for a few months in any developed Western society 500 years of supposed philosophical progress about human rights and individualism would quickly evaporate like they never happened.”

So I saw this tweet from Murtaza Hussain of The Intercept:

If you turned the electricity off for a few months in any developed Western society 500 years of supposed philosophical progress about human rights and individualism would quickly evaporate like they never happened.

It reminded me of my post on January 25, 2022, “There are only nine meals between mankind and anarchy, in which I tracked down the source of the phrase:

I thought it might be one of those phrases that really had no provable attribution, but nope, I found it in the digitized archives of Cosmopolitan maintained by various universities, in the March 1906 issue in an article titled, The Day of Discontent.

I downloaded the full article  into a pdf, so you can read the whole thing. You’re welcome. They were talking about troubles of the time, social discontent, part of which related to food but also the rise of socialism. It’s worth a read because so much parallels current problems.

But, it appears the saying may not be original to the Cosmopolitan discussion. The phrase was used by Lewis in the New York Journal in 1896 (pdf.):

“the only barrier between us and anarchy is the last nine meals we’ve had. It may be taken as axiomatic that a starving man is never a good citizen.”

It's not just keeping on the lights and heat in peoples' homes. It's the continued functioning of banks, hospitals, transportation and every single aspect of modern life. Everything requires electricity. This will not be pretty.

People are not going to realize what this means until they experience life as envisioned by the world wild Greenies. Sadly the children are indoctrinated from a young age.

I watched a rerun of Last Man Standing last week where the kids were ranting and raving about climate change. Dad went out and flipped the breaker. The kids were all like "huh?".

Too darn bad we can't take a reversable test. Europe may lead the way, but it may not be reversable without a lot of death.

Escobar: Germany's Energy Suicide - An Autopsy
When Green fanatic Robert Habeck, posing as Germany’s Economy Minister, said earlier this week “we should expect the worst” in terms of energy security, he conveniently forgot to spell out how the whole farce is a Made in Germany cum Made in Brussels crisis.

Everyone with a brain following the ghastly Eurocrat machinations in Brussels was aware of the main plot – yet hardly anyone among average EU citizens. Habeck, Chancellor “Liver Sausage” Scholz, the European Commission (EC) Green Energy VP Timmermans, EC dominatrix Ursula von der Leyen, they are all involved.

In a nutshell: as Engdahl describes it, this is about “the EU plan to de-industrialize one of the most energy-efficient industrial concentrations on the planet.”

That’s a practical translation of the UN Green Agenda 2030 – which happens to be metastasized into crypto Bond villain Klaus Schwab’s Great Reset – now renamed “Great Narrative”.  The whole scam started way back in the early 2000s: I remember it vividly, as Brussels used to be my European base in the early “war on terror” years.

At the time, the talk of the town was the “European energy policy”. The dirty secret of such policy is that the EC, “ advised” by JP MorganChase as well as the usual mega speculative hedge funds, went all out into what Engdahl describes as “a complete deregulation of the European market for natural gas.” ...

On the interminable soap opera involving the Nord Stream 1 turbine, the crucial fact is that Canada deliberately refused to deliver the repaired turbine to Gazprom – its owner – but instead sent it to Siemens Germany, where it is now. Siemens Germany is essentially under American control. Both the German and Canadian governments refuse to grant a legally binding sanction exemption for the transfer to Russia.

That was the straw that broke the (Gazprom) camel’s back. Gazprom and the Kremlin concluded that if sabotage was the name of the game, they couldn’t care less whether Germany received zero gas via Nord Stream 1 (with brand new Nord Stream 2, ready to go, blocked by strictly political reasons).

Kremlin spokesman Dmity Peskov took pains to stress “problems in [gas] deliveries arose due to sanctions that have been imposed on our country and a number of companies by Western countries (…) There are no other reasons behind supply issues.” ...

And the saddest part of this story, is that our country is watching this happen, and letting it happen here too.  It's like suicide.

Europe is also in part doomed by allowing massive migration of refugees; though not as bad as the situation that we now have on our hands at our southern border.

A little dated, but nonetheless--

UK PM Truss to unleash billions to help with energy bills. But there are big questions over funding

The U.K.’s new Prime Minister Liz Truss is set to announce a package worth tens of billions of pounds to help people to pay their energy bills on Thursday, but there are concerns over how it will be funded.

The policy announcement is expected to freeze the price of energy either at its current level or at £2,500 ($2,870). As it currently stands the cap coming into effect next month will raise the average energy bill from £1,971 to £3,549 a year.

Truss said she would “deal with the energy crisis caused by Putin’s war” in her maiden speech as prime minister on Tuesday evening. “I will take action this week to deal with energy bills and to secure our future energy supply,” she said.

Same thing is happening here - our electric bill has doubled and we are due yet for another increase.  We keep our thermostat at 78, so it's not like we're cooling our house to any extreme.

We can thank Brandon --- it's a matter of oil prices.  Remember we are no longer energy independent and Brandon has drained our reserves so we are dependent on the ME and others for our oil.  He also shutdown the Keystone pipeline.

Expect to pay dearly to heat your home this year.

U.S. becomes top LNG exporter in first half of 2022 - EIA

HOUSTON, July 25 (Reuters) - The United States became the top liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporter in the first half of 2022, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said, citing data from CEDIGAZ, as the country increased supply to Europe amid the Ukraine crisis.

How did this happen?

Liberals were handed power.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

Winter heating costs could rise an average 10.5%

Quote

WASHINGTON -- Consumers will likely pay record prices to heat their homes this winter, with a particularly big jump expected in heating oil bills, according to a report to be released today showing how a recent surge in oil prices could hit homeowners.

The average U.S. household will pay $992 in heating costs this winter, up $94, or 10.5%, from last winter, says the National Energy Assistance Directors' Association (NEADA), a group of state energy aid officials.

For heating oil customers the increase may be particularly dramatic. The average U.S. heating oil bill is expected to be a record $1,834 for the winter, up 28% from a year ago and double the cost seen four winters ago. Average prices are expected to top $3 a gallon, up from $2.48 last winter.

The sharp, expected increases are attributed to elevated crude oil prices and low inventories.
