Chinese aircraft and ships crossed the median line in the Taiwan Strait on Sunday, Taiwan’s defense ministry said, continuing the military provocations that Beijing has conducted for months and intensified after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to the island earlier this month.
Taiwan detected 12 Chinese planes and five ships operating near the line as Beijing continued to carry out military drills near the self-governed island.
China, which views Taiwan as part of its sovereign territory and has suggested it may reunify the country — by force if necessary — extended military exercises around Taiwan during the visit by Pelosi and a contingent of Democratic lawmakers at the first of August.
