    She shot a 70 on Thursday and hit a 76 during the second round on Friday
    According to the LPGA's rules, any player who shoots under 88 after all three rounds will earn a 2023 Epson Tour Status
    Davidson last competed as a male golfer in 2015, undergoing hormone therapy and completing her transition in 2021

A golfer is poised to become the first transgender woman to earn a Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tour card after beating much of her competition in the first two qualifying rounds.

Hailey Davidson, 29, had a strong finish in the first two rounds of the first stage of the LPGA and Epson Tour Qualifying School in Palm Springs this week.

Davidson, a Scotland native who lives in Florida, shot a 70 in the first round at the Shadow Ridge Golf Club in Palm Desert California, on Thursday, and hit a 76 during the second round on Friday, Fox News reported.

Unlike sports like track and field, in golf a guy doesn't necessarily have an intrinsic advantage when competing against women. The LPGA made a big mistake removing the "female at birth" requirement though. This is just absurd.

I have to disagree. Men have a huge advantage over women in golf.  The average PGA Tour male player hits the ball about 300 yards.  The best females cannot approach that number, and the average on the LPGA is around 260.  The longest PGA hitter hits it 316 on average versus the longest female at 284.  That is a 32 yard difference.

A scratch male amateur would beat the best LPGA player most of the time if both played from the back tees.

This transgender says (s)he hits it 15 yards less since the transition.  That would still be 20-25 yards better than the average female pro if (s)he is any good at all.

Adult males have a ten percent average athletic advantage on females. If someone has a five percent advantage over you, they're going to kick your fanny on a regular basis in whatever sport you might name.
If someone has a ten percent advantage, you might as well not show up to compete against them.
For some odd reason there was a myth propagated by ignorant lib sportswriters that the top female in pro tennis could beat any male not in the top 200.
So the Williams sister, Serena and Venus,  challenged some male pros outside the top 200 to a tennis match. Some German pro, whose name I can't remember, took them up on it. He beat both of them handily one after the other and later said he really wasn't trying very hard.
Because the difference between the top males and the top females is so large. The difference in ability between the top pros in any sport and the pros way down the list is slight.
The Williams sister would have been better matched to try to find a male pro outside the top 1000.

Hailey Davidson is vying to become the first transgender golfer to earn a Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour card — despite facing a furious backlash from critics who believe that she has an unfair biological advantage.

Davidson, 29, played two strong rounds at the LPGA Qualifying School in Palm Springs, California, over the weekend, shooting a 70 on Thursday, followed by a 76 the next day, Fox News Digital reported.

LPGA rules dictate that any player who shoots under 88 in all three rounds will earn a 2023 Epson Tour Status, which is the qualifying tour for the LPGA Tour.

The top 100 players will move on to Stage II in October.

...  Hailey Davidson, 29, a transgender woman who first competed at Stage I last year, was among those who missed the cut after rounds of 70-76-73.

Davidson became the second transgender golfer to compete in the event after Bobbi Lancaster, a 63-year-old physician from Arizona who earned Epson Tour status in 2013, but ultimately spent her time traveling the country as a human rights advocate.

Davidson earned a scholarship to play on the men’s team at Wilmington University, an NCAA Division II school in Delaware, before transferring to the men’s team at Christopher Newport, an NCAA Division III school in Virginia.

Davidson began undergoing hormone treatments on Sept. 24, 2015, a date that’s tattooed on her right forearm, and in January 2021, underwent gender reassignment surgery, a six-hour procedure that’s required under the LPGA’s Gender Policy.   ...

Not saying it's impossible, but few D-III golfers of either sex are likely to find success on the professional tours. Most of the current active LPGA players went to women's golf powerhouses at the D-I level, like Arizona State, Duke, Stanford, UCLA, USC, etc., although a few skipped college, like Lexi Thompson and the many top Korean golfers.
