Canada's already liberal euthanasia laws will soon expand, permitting 'mature' children under 18, mentally ill to qualify

Canada, a country with perhaps the most permissive euthanasia laws in the world, will soon make those laws even more permissive.

Under the new law, "mature" youth under the age of 18 and the mentally ill will soon qualify for euthanasia, according to the AP.

Canada first legalized euthanasia, a process by which doctors administer drugs in order to end a patient's life, back in 2016. The law supposedly attempts to restrict the practice to only those patients with a verifiable pathological condition, who are experiencing "unbearable physical or mental suffering that cannot be relieved under conditions that patients consider acceptable," and whose death is "reasonably foreseeable." The patient must submit a request for euthanasia, and at least two physicians must approve it.

However, there have been reports that some patients, particularly the disabled, have been coerced into euthanasia and that some of those patients who have been euthanized did not actually suffer life-threatening illnesses..................

Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

This will not end well.

This is so sick. When will Canadians reverse this transformation of their nation to the Third Reich 2.0?

I don't know, but I do know that if it isn't stopped, it will be coming to the U.S. sooner or later.

Is this worse than what many states in the USA have?  Where children at the age of 13 can obtain prescription drugs without parental consent, and now we have kids popping psychotropics, puberty blockers, opiates and other goodies handed out freely to them by the obliging medical community.

Unless you have a teenager, you have no idea how big a problem this has become.  The kids use social media to clue each other in on what to say, how to act, which doctors are accommodating, how to hide it from parents, etc.  Then the doctors bill the CHIPS program for it and no one is the wiser.

Is it any wonder that this generation is the most self-abusive, with lower self-esteem than any generation in US history?

The late Francis A. Schaeffer's book and film, "Whatever Happened to the Human Race?" explored these questions back in the 1980s. He predicted infanticide and so-called euthanasia would soon be common in the US and other western nations.

I wasn't aware that it was supposed to be a competition.  Both are malum in se, and there is no need for comparison.

Of course there is a need for comparison.  The more we look at these things and expose them, the better.

I agree they all need to be exposed.  But I don't agree that there is any benefit to comparing "how bad" either one is.  BTW, Canada is worse than the U.S. when it comes to gender-affirming child abuse as well.  See, e.g., the following:  https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/canada-transgender-treatment

Some Canadian Health Care Patients Say They're Being Encouraged To Just Die Already
When the government runs the system, the right of citizens to end their own suffering can be twisted to serve the state.
Scott Shackford | 9.7.2022 1:50 PM
Quote
In 2015 Canada's Supreme Court struck down bans on medically assisted suicide as a violation of citizens' liberty, writing that "An individual's response to a grievous and irremediable medical condition is a matter critical to their dignity and autonomy. The prohibition denies people in this situation the right to make decisions concerning their bodily integrity and medical care and thus trenches on their liberty. And by leaving them to endure intolerable suffering, it impinges on their security of the person."

Those quotes, in a nutshell, explain why the ability to end one's life is an important freedom. Our bodies belong to us, not the government. We should have the power to decide whether we wish to continue living, particularly if we are in constant pain or suffering debilitating or fatal illnesses. In the Supreme Court's ruling, the judges note that a ban on physician-assisted suicide "is rationally connected to the goal of protecting the vulnerable from taking their life in times of weakness" but that such protections don't justify a full blanket prohibition on the practice. And so, the court ordered Canada to draft new legislation permitting euthanasia and assisted suicide. The Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) law was implemented in 2016.

Unfortunately, the philosophical argument for the right to die can also end up colliding with troubling decisions in a country where the government funds and controls access to healthcare. That is reportedly happening in Canada, where some citizens say health officials are actively encouraging people with disabilities and other chronic medical issues to consider suicide.

According to the Associated Press, hospitals are raising the possibility of assisted suicide with patients who hadn't asked about it. These conversations are not motivated by quality of life but health care costs.  ...

In absence of significant "freedom" to pursue individualized health care options, Canada is now potentially violating citizens' rights in the exact opposite direction than it was before. People have the right to die but also the right to continue living in the face of medical adversity. That Canada's publicly-operated health care system is unable to efficiently meet the needs of citizens makes all these health worker interactions about euthanasia inherently suspect.

Up until 1929 every major Christian religion stood 100% against artificial contraception. In 1930 the Church of England agreed to permit it in "certain circumstances". This led to a proliferation of methods and a loss of respect for life at conception. Shortly thereafter Margaret Sanger began Planned Parenthood. It was not a long leap to euthanasia to "reduce suffering" as an "option". We are less than a decade away from it becoming a duty to benefit society.
In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act.
