The world's first completely emission-free train powered by hydrogen is officially running in Germany.
The manufacturer says the trains are a "true alternative to diesel power" as Europe tries to wean itself off of Russian oil.

Check out photos of the world's first hydrogen-powered train.

The world's first train powered by hydrogen officially started picking up passengers in Germany last Monday.

The train cost $86 million, according to a report by Fuel Cell Works, and will begin by transporting passengers between two stops just outside of Hamburg.

Germany was also quick to jump on the left's green energy train. :pondering:

  • I don't believe in Trump anymore, he's an illusion
The EPA says that hydrogen vehicles generate water and heat as by-products rather than regular vehicle exhaust emissions that contribute to pollution.
The EPA is applauding a technology that adds heat to a already, according to them, global catastrophe? And the water, the morons on the California Water Resources Control Board nixed a desalination plant because some other morons claimed it would add to sea level rise(try and get your head around that one) so obviously the Gaia worshiping fruitcakes in California would be against the tech. I wonder when the first hydrogen choo choo to go boom will be, because EV buses have done so well with their tech.

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
To clarify, this is fuel cells, not an internal combustion hydrogen engine like cars burning gasoline.

If it is cost effective, I can get on board with it.

Here's where they got the hydrogen:

CH4 + 2H2O → CO2 + 4H2

And then there's the energy needed to boil the H2O to create steam.  That cost them even more CH4, creating more CO2.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

The only way for it to be cost effective is if electricity prices fall below carbon-based fuel prices.  Currently, that is not the case.  Find a way to generate electricity for less, and then you can use electrolysis to generate hydrogen instead of reforming methane.  Until that happens, hydrogen will never be cost effective.

That's not much more than a hydrogen-powered street car.

Wouldn't meet the strict crash standards of mainline USA railroading...

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
But I thought H2O was an even worse 'greenhouse gas' than CO2.. :pondering:

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
