Trump says he’ll be questioned in New York investigation into finances
by Kyle Balluck and Olafimihan Oshin - 08/10/22 8:13 AM ET

Former President Trump said he’ll be questioned on Wednesday in the New York attorney general’s investigation into his finances, confirming the deposition in a Truth Social media post.

“In New York City tonight. Seeing racist N.Y.S. Attorney General tomorrow, for a continuation of the greatest Witch Hunt in U.S. history!” Trump wrote. “My great company, and myself, are being attacked from all sides. Banana Republic!”

New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) and her office launched the probe into Trump and his company, the Trump Organization, over allegations that it misstated the value of assets and misled lenders and tax authorities.

James alleges in court filings that investigators found that the company “used fraudulent or misleading asset valuations to obtain a host of economic benefits, including loans, insurance coverage, and tax deductions.” It is also alleged that the size of Trump’s Manhattan-based penthouse was exaggerated.

Trump was initially scheduled to be deposed last month, but the questioning was delayed due to the death of his first wife, Ivana Trump

IMHO, Trump is sending out these notification in hopes that Maga mobs will protest those officials and agencies persecuting him.  He's hoping that Maga mass protests will intimidate them to back off.

The best thing I've rread about this is Trump followed his attorney's advise and did not answer any questions and instead invoked his 5th Amendment right.

Trump says he invoked Fifth Amendment in N.Y. attorney general deposition
Erin Doherty

Former President Trump said Wednesday that he refused to answer any questions from New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) in the civil investigation over his business.

Why it matters: The deposition comes as Trump has faced a new level of legal scrutiny and just days after the FBI executed a search warrant at the former president's Mar-a-Lago residence in an unrelated investigation.

What he's saying: "Under the advice of my counsel, ... I declined to answer the questions under the rights and privileges afforded to every citizen under the United States Constitution," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social account.

"I once asked, 'if you're innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?" Now I know the answer to that question," he also said.
"When your family, your company and all the people in your orbit have become the targets of an unfounded, politically motivated Witch Hunt ... you have no choice."

Or, he's simply explaining why he took the fifth.   -----

IMHO, Trump took the 5th Amendment because that is his Constitutional right.  That's the simplest explanation.

IMHO, most of Trump's text is personal disparagement of a public official designed to illicit a mass response against her and her office.

I thought Rinos were supposed to be the smart wing of the GOP @DefiantMassRINO  ---- and not spotlight their Bidenite stripes, at least not in public.   888mouth

Insulting me is a deflection from the validity of my opinion.

The first 7 paragraphs or stanzas were dedicated to disparaging a public official and her office.

Only one sentence, the last, mentioned that Trump exercised his 5th Amendment Constitutional right.

The last sentence was the predicate for releasing a press release to disparage a public official and her office.

At some point there is a level of harrassment that demands return retribution.

I hope the perps pay 10 fold.

I'm not insulting you @DefiantMassRINO   --- and am surprised you think this.

I am simply connecting what you have shared:   You're a proud, self-identified "RINO" reposting talking points from the RINO wing, aka "assistant Bidenites".

In my educated opinion, yours lacks validity.     Nothing personal.

Halleluiah!  Finally, Trump does something right.

I've always worried that if he was in a court, or at a deposition, he would talk. It's the worst thing an innocent man can do. Attorneys make their living manipulating words and if Trump starts arguing with them he will end up walking right into a trap.

We are truly fortunate in this country that we do not have to answer questions if we don't want to, especially now that we've seen how corrupt the justice system in this country has become.

"Trump has suggested on many occasions that people who invoke their right against self-incrimination are guilty. “You see the mob takes the Fifth,” Trump said during a 2016 rally in Iowa. “If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?"

So Trump is guilty by his own reasoning, right?

The vast majority of people assume that if someone invokes their 5th Amendment right that they are guilty. They are wrong.

So now that it has been established that Trump was wrong, but smart enough to listen to his attorney's can we assume you will be a big Trump supporter? After all it takes a big man to admit when they were wrong and change their attitude.

A smart man listens to his attorneys.

In New York?  Yeah, right.

  • I don't believe in Trump anymore, he's an illusion

Maybe Trump should have just repeated 'I don't recall', that seemed to work well for Hillary when she was questioned about a little debacle that got Americans killed and the socialist press was just fine. But invoke your constitutional right at a kangaroo court fishing expedition and it's suddenly OMG!
