Eric Trump, the president's second-oldest son, told Fox News that the FBI's execution of the search warrant on Mr Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate was related to an investigation into the handling of National Archives records.

In February, the National Archives, the US government agency that manages the preservation of presidential records, asked the justice department to investigate Mr Trump for his handling of official papers.

The National Archives said it had retrieved 15 boxes from Mar-a-Lago, some of which contained classified records.

US presidents are required by law to transfer all of their letters, work documents and emails to the National Archives.

But officials say the former president illegally ripped up many documents.

Some of them had to be taped back together, the Archives said. Mr Trump at the time rejected reports that he had mishandled official records as "fake news".

A senior Trump adviser in Palm Beach told CBS that the search by federal agents on Mar-a-Lago was about the presidential records.

"This is about the PRA [Presidential Records Act]," said the Trump source, who only agreed to speak on condition of anonymity.

BREAKING: Taryn Fenske confirms the DeSantis administration did not know about nor worked with FBI or DOJ on the Mar-a-Lago raid.

What do you think @Hoodat -- you made the comment that the warrant had to come from FL.  If that is true I am not certain at all that DeSantis didn't know about it.

Any judge can issue a warrant.  Any judge.  They could get any circuit court magistrate in Palm Beach county to sign off on this one.  I have no reason to believe that DeSantis knew, nor would anyone tip him off knowing how much he hates DC.

Don’t take the bait.

My overall sense of what happened at Mar-a-Lago is that this is a provocation.

If New York Times reporting is right — and they never err on the side of being soft on Trump — then this raid was over documents the National Archives thinks Trump should not have, or perhaps classified documents in his possession. That is not something the FBI raids major political candidates over — See, In Re Hillary Rodham Clinton.

This is a provocation. They are trying to get a reaction that allows a further crackdown. See, In Re J6.

It’s also a provocation to get Trump to declare his candidacy for President before the midterms. Democrats would love to turn 2022 into a referendum on Trump rather than the deliberate destruction of the national borders and inflation.

The Biden Administration raid on former President Trump’s Florida home is a bald attack on our republic. The Democrat Party is dragging us into the Third World. Raiding and ransacking a former president’s home, and likely future candidate for president against Biden (who has insisted he’s running again), is bullshit. This an unprecedented act of state-sponsored lawlessness. Millions have rightly lost faith in the DOJ, FBI. media, and Congress, and this is beyond anything I can ever recall.

And where the hell is the Senate GOP leadership? McConnell, Cornyn, Thune, and Barraso?

The National Archives confirms it found classified materials at Mar-a-Lago

The National Archives and Records Administration found classified materials in the 15 boxes of records it retrieved from former President Donald Trump's residence at Mar-a-Lago, according to a letter sent to the House of Representatives' Committee on Oversight and Reform on Friday.

"NARA has identified items marked as classified national security information within the boxes," archivist David S. Ferriero wrote in the letter. "Because NARA identified classified information in the boxes, NARA staff has been in communication with the Department of Justice."

Also in his letter, Ferriero said the National Archives found certain social media records were not captured and preserved, and Trump administration staffers "conducted official business using non-official electronic messaging accounts that were not copied or forwarded into their official electronic messaging accounts." It is working to get the missing records.

Ferriero also confirmed that some of the records it received from the Trump administration had been torn up. A portion of them had been taped back together by White House staff, while others had not been reconstructed.

Ferriero said the National Archives is still in the process of inventorying all 15 boxes but expects to be finished by February 25.

The letter was sent to the House Oversight and Reform Committee, which is investigating Trump's record-keeping practices, after it requested information from Ferriero about the boxes.

The National Archives obtained the presidential documents and communications from Trump's Florida residence last month. Under the 1978 Presidential Records Act, sitting presidents and their staff are required to preserve all memos, letters, emails, documents and official communications related to the president and then transfer them to the National Archives after the end of their term.

Earlier this month, the National Archives reportedly asked the Justice Department to investigate Trump's handling of presidential documents.  .  .
