A Texas woman who federal authorities say held 17 immigrants hostage in her home has been charged in the case, announced U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Chad E. Meacham on Thursday.

The 30-year-old Friona woman is accused of holding people hostage, threatening to deprive them of food and water and refusing to allow them to leave until they paid $11,000 to $12,000 or “worked off” the debt.

Federal authorities identified the woman as Manuela Magdalena Jimon Castro, who was charged via criminal complaint with alien harboring.

Why not kidnapping and extortion, too?  Well, I guess maybe the prosecutor doesn't want  to work that hard. 999yawn
