China warns US fighter jets escorting Pelosi to Taiwan would be an INVASION and her plane will be shot down: Speaker refuses to confirm trip - as Beijing warns it would 'cross a red line' and US aircraft carrier holds drills in the South China Sea

China fired its most direct warning shot yet amid reports that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi may visit Taiwan on Friday, saying that if the speaker's plane is accompanied by U.S. fighter jets, they would not rule out shooting them down.

'If US fighter jets escort Pelosi's plane into Taiwan, it is invasion. The PLA has the right to forcibly dispel Pelosi's plane and the US fighter jets, including firing warning shots and making tactical movement of obstruction. If ineffective, then shoot them down,' Hu Xijin, a commentator with the Chinese state-affiliated Global Times, wrote on Twitter. 

Earlier China warned the U.S. against crossing a 'red line' as it released not-so-subtle warnings against the speaker, which China has reasoned is number three in line in U.S. government, from visiting Taiwan.

The U.S. must be prepared to 'bear all consequences' if Pelosi chooses to visit Taiwan, Chinese foreign minister Zhao Lijian said in a briefing Friday.

National Security Spokesman John Kirby said Friday the Pentagon has seen no indication of a military threat.

'We just don't have any concrete indications of something happening from a military perspective on the Chinese part,' Kirby said.

'There's no reason for it to come to come to blows, to come to increased physical tension. There's no reason for that because there's been no change in American policy,' he added.

Don't have to, China gets 80% of their oil from the Persian Gulf. A couple destroyers, let alone a super carrier group, can cut off all shipments and China will run out of gas in two months. China does not have a deep water navy so if you cut off the shipments before the tankers pass India they can't do a thing.

I agree with you and I have asked myself that question a couple of times.  Why is Pelosi the one to go in the first place?  Why not Blinken?? Harris??  Speaker of the House making the trip just doesn't make sense.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi began her pan-Asian trip on Sunday, but at the moment there has been no talk of visiting Taiwan, with the omission coming as China increases their threats against the House Speaker and her envoy.

Pelosi's office said in a press release that "Speaker Nancy Pelosi is leading a Congressional delegation to the Indo-Pacific region, including visits to Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan," but there was no mention of Taiwan on her agenda. "The trip will focus on mutual security, economic partnership and democratic governance in the Indo-Pacific region," the press release read.

In her Friday press conference, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) remained mum about whether her trip to Asia would include a stop in Taiwan citing security concerns for her congressional delegation of lawmakers heading abroad to show emphasis on the U.S. interest in Asia. According to U.S. Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR), though, not everyone has been so tight-lipped about Pelosi's travel plans.  ...

In an interview earlier in the week, Cotton said it's common knowledge on Capitol Hill that Pelosi's plans to visit Taiwan were leaked to the Chinese Communist Party in Beijing by none other than President Joe Biden himself.

"Well the word I've heard in Congress is that the leak of Nancy Pelosi's trip came straight from the White House, the pressure came from Joe Biden who doesn't want her to take this trip because he's once again kowtowing to Beijing," Cotton explained to Laura Ingraham on Fox News Channel.

"But Lloyd Austin and Joe Biden shouldn't be worried about China's aggressiveness, they should be making China worry about our aggressiveness," he noted.
