Illinois Democrats display united front — at least on hopes Chicago will host 2024 convention

DNC Chair Jaime Harrison’s visit to Chicago comes as U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly faces opposition as chair of the Democratic Party of Illinois, with advisers to Gov. J.B Pritzker and Illinois House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch recruiting state Rep. Elizabeth Hernandez, D-Cicero, to replace her.

Democratic leaders on Tuesday touted Chicago’s diversity, ability to attract union-friendly jobs and “unified leadership” in their pitch to secure the 2024 Democratic National Convention — despite an intramural feud over who should lead the state’s own party apparatus.

But Pritzker downplayed the intraparty battle, claiming “we’re all standing here in unison, standing up for a Democratic convention for Chicago and for the state of Illinois.” The Democratic Party of Illinois plans to vote on its chair on Saturday in Springfield, creating some unfortunate timing for the DNC visit.

Harrison joined the DNC’s convention site selection team at a glitzy West Loop news conference, with the Willis Tower in full sight, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White and his tumblers in tow, and Pritzker, Kelly and Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot making their pitch for the city to host the 2024 convention.

True enough, but Chicago does have an antifa/BLM-friendly mayor who will almost surely let them run riot in the streets.  So all we have to do is to "facilitate" antifa/BLM rioting in Chicago during the convention.

The Democratic National Convention wasn't as big a boon to Boston in 2004.

Most locals scheduled vacations and made plans to work from home to avoid the mayhem.  Much of the city was devoid of locals while the Convetion was in town.  Even the regular street corner panhandlers were gone (did the DNC rapture the homeless?).

Most of the DNC events were catered, so, attendees did not patronize local establishments.  It was a bust for local businesses.

Protesters were corralled in chain-link fence pens ('Free Speech Zone', 'First Ammendment Zone') under an elevated roadway/subway.  That was hillarious.

... Free speech zones were used in Boston at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. The free speech zones organized by the authorities in Boston were boxed in by concrete walls, invisible to the FleetCenter where the convention was held and criticized harshly as a "protest pen" or "Boston's Camp X-Ray".[14] "Some protesters for a short time Monday [July 26, 2004] converted the zone into a mock prison camp by donning hoods and marching in the cage with their hands behind their backs."[15] A coalition of groups protesting the Iraq War challenged the planned protest zones. U.S. District Court Judge Douglas Woodlock was sympathetic to their request: "One cannot conceive of what other design elements could be put into a space to create a more symbolic affront to the role of free expression.".[16] However, he ultimately rejected the petition to move the protest zones closer to the FleetCenter.[17] ...

In general, local residents and local businesses would have preferred to enjoy the Summer without the disruption and the loss of business caused by the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

It's perfect, really. The most violent city in America, with the most corrupt state government hosting a woke mob who will spend five days dodging gunfire.

I can't wait.

They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it.
