Meth seizures reach record high in NYC as cartels flood market

Meth seizures in the Big Apple have reached a record high this year as experts say Mexican cartels taking advantage of strapped security at the US border are flooding the market with the dangerous drug.

The US Drug Enforcement Administration’s New York Division had already confiscated a record 876 kilograms (1,931 pounds) this fiscal year before two suspected smugglers were busted last week in Gotham with $1.2 million of the drug.

“New York is seeing the sharpest rise in methamphetamine seizures ever recorded,” Frank A. Tarentino III, special agent in charge of the DEA NY Division, said in a statement to The Post.

“This city is the final destination for illicit drugs like these. Drug traffickers are constantly finding new and innovative ways to get their poison into the hands of New Yorkers.”

Meth seizures by New York drug agents this year have already eclipsed the previous record hauls for fiscal years, including 680 kilograms in 2017 and 755 kilograms in 2020, according to DEA figures provided to The Post.

I really don't understand all the panic of a self-solving problem. ALL you do when you arrest an addict and send them off to prison rehab is guarantee the problem is going to last longer.

Now,if you happen to have a loved one or even a liked one with this problem,I understand your concern,but your concern is with that one person,not all junkies/methheads.

This isn't like fentanyl/heroin, one and done.

This stuff takes time, and things can get pretty crazy on the way.

That is the nature of junkies,and there isn't one single damn thing that can be done to stop it,other than just let them shoot up to their hearts content,until they either die off or somehow manage to kick the habit on their own.

And make NO mistake about it. There is no such critter as a mandatory program that will get junkies to quit shooting up. You can NOT make them quit. They have to quit on their own or there just ain't any hope of it "sticking".

Your alternative would make it impossible to do anything about all the collateral damage they cause.  That is a no-go.  If locking them up for possessing illicit drugs limits the amount of collateral damage they cause, then sobeit.

BTW,it's not the junkies that are high doing what you call the "collateral damage". It's junkies who are NOT high,and looking for something to steal so they can sell it to buy heroin so they can GET high. Or "down",which is more accurate.

No, actually, it's not a self-solving problem, except in the long-term.  Junkies can live quite a long time, and they cause a hell of a lot of collateral damage during that time.

Junkies only live a long time thanks to being arrested and put in jail where they can't get heroin,put in rehab,etc,etc,etc. Not to mention the medical care they get while in jail to help bring their systems back up to normal strength.

And this is not even addressing the "free meals" they get at charities that frees up more money for them to spend on heroin. Or the welfare checks they get that gives them money to spend on heroin or other drugs,like alcohol.

There was even a liquor store in my neighborhood in Denver that allowed the junkies and drunks to claim it as their mailing address,and get their checks sent there. The liquor store owner would cash their checks for them,and then take money from their accounts for the liquor they bought.

Truth to tell,he was doing them one hell of a favor because he would only give them maybe 10 bucks in cash on any one day so they could buy food,but not have enough money on them to make it worth anyone's time to roll them. Yeah,he was benefiting fro the regular customers,but he was also doing them a solid by keeping them from getting rolled and losing a whole month of cash at one time.

Granted,probably 99 percent of his customers were hard-core alcoholics and not junkies.
