Texas Scorecard by  Jake Peterson | July 18, 2022

“We must start with a new chapter and a new attitude about the use of cannabis—especially when it comes to its potential medicinal benefits.” — Texas Ag Commissioner Sid Miller

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is calling on Texas officials to adopt a new attitude about cannabis and its uses, urging Gov. Greg Abbott to make it a priority in the upcoming legislative session.

In his editorial entitled “Standing Up For Compassionate Use,” Miller notes his experience with Texas hemp growers and says, “In a free society, government should only make something illegal for a powerful reason or set of facts.”

I believe that cannabis prohibition came from a place of fear, not from medical science or the analysis of social harm. Sadly, the roots of this came from a history of racism, classism, and a large central government with an authoritarian desire to control others.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Why stir that pot?

Tax revenue or for the bags of cash left in dumpsters like Gov Eddie Edwards of Louisiana obtained when he declared “It’s time for a casino in Louisiana”
