U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton is demanding an investigation into what he says is a “blatant violation” of federal law after Rachael Rollins, the state’s top federal prosecutor, attended a “high-dollar” Democratic fundraiser in Andover featuring the first lady.

Cotton, in a letter obtained exclusively by the Herald, “demands” the inspector general for the Department of Justice probe a “potential Hatch Act violation” by Rollins.

As the Herald first reported, Rollins showed up at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser with first lady Jill Biden on Thursday.

When asked if her attendance at the ritzy private gathering was breaking the law, she told a Herald reporter: “No.”

The Hatch Act strictly forbids DOJ employees from using their positions to solicit donations for political parties. In some cases, it does allow attending such events. ... Cotton, in his letter to DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz, points out that Rollins arrived during “typical business hours,” in a vehicle with government plates and “in her official capacity as United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts.”  ...

I wasn’t asked for a comment before this ran. It’s almost as if the Herald⁩ didn’t want to know I had approval to meet Dr. Biden & left early to speak at 2 community events last night 🤔 Alas, back to keeping Boston & MA Part 1 crime  Nice try though.

Another of Biden's great affirmative action hires.

The Biden-appointed U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts has resigned after a special counsel's investigation found "the most egregious Hatch Act violations" the Office of Special Counsel has ever investigated — calling it "an extraordinary breach of public trust."

Justice Department watchdog finds Massachusetts U.S. Attorney Rachael Rollins tried to influence DA election
AP
Updated: 5:42 PM EDT May 17, 2023

BOSTON —

The top federal prosecutor in Massachusetts, who has announced her resignation, tried to influence the outcome of a race for Boston’s district attorney and violated multiple policies, the Justice Department’s internal watchdog said in a report released Wednesday.

The inspector general's 161-page report alleges a broad array of misconduct by U.S. Attorney Rachael Rollins. It accuses her of disclosing to a journalist nonpublic information about a Justice Department investigation, soliciting and accepting 30 free tickets to a Boston Celtics game and accepting payment from a sports and entertainment agency for travel and means.

The watchdog said Rollins used her position to try to influence last year's race for the Democratic nominee for district attorney of Suffolk County, which includes Boston, by leaking a potentially damaging information about District Attorney Kevin Hayden while supporting his political rival. ...   WCVB

BREAKING: Soros-backed Boston federal prosecutor to resign after ethics report reveals 'egregious' misconduct
Tom Cotton said she was not "only a pro-criminal ideologue," but also had a "history of poor judgment and ethical lapses."

A high-ranking federal prosecutor in Massachusetts is stepping down after watchdog reports published Wednesday revealed she broke numerous Department of Justice (DOJ) policies by attempting to meddle in a local electoral race, joining a Democrat Party fundraiser where Jill Biden appeared, among other things.

In the 161-page report on Rachel Rollins' alleged violations, Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s office said that she "fell far short of the standards of professionalism and judgment that the Department should expect of any employee, much less a U.S. Attorney."

The former prosecutor, Rachael Rollins, may have potentially violated US law as well, The Wall Street Journal reports. One of "the most egregious transgressions" she committed was a suspected Hatch Act violation, according to the office.

Rollins' campaign for district attorney was reportedly backed by George Soros, who has a history of funding elections for local prosecutors, including George Gascon in LA. ...

DOJ Opted Not to Prosecute Radical U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Despite Inspector General’s Referral
Nick Gilbertson
19 May 2023

President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) opted not to prosecute U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts Rachael Rollins after the Office of the Inspector General determined that she lied under oath and referred its allegation to the DOJ.

The OIG released the results of an investigation into Rollins, who the Heritage Foundation notes was previously backed by left-wing billionaire George Soros, on multiple fronts on Wednesday, finding that she allegedly attempted to influence the Suffolk County District Attorney’s race last year and subsequently lied under oath during an investigation into the matter. Although the watchdog referred their findings to the Department of Justice, it opted not to pursue prosecution.  ... Breitbart

Biden DOJ Drops All Charges Against Soros-Backed DA Who Resigned: Turley

BY TYLER DURDEN

Authored by Jonathan Turley,

The Department of Justice’s special counsel, Jack Smith, is continuing his work toward possible criminal charges against former President Donald Trump. While I continue to doubt the viability of criminal charges based on Trump’s speech before the Jan. 6, 2021 riot on Capitol Hill, I have repeatedly said that the Mar-a-Lago matter could present a serious threat for Trump.

However, a recent (and little-reported) decision by the DOJ may complicate the final decision in the case with new concerns over a double standard in charging decisions.

Last week, the Justice Department announced that it would not charge Rachael Rollins, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts, despite a referral from the DOJ’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG), which found evidence that she lied to investigators and may have improperly sought to influence an election. Rollins resigned from office on Friday.

The OIG released detailed findings against Rollins for allegedly seeking to influence a Suffolk County, Mass., district attorney election last year. She also was accused by the OIG of lying under oath during an investigation into the matter. The report states that “on December 16, 2022, pursuant to the Inspector General Act, 5 U.S.C. § 404(d), the OIG referred the false statements allegation to the Department for a prosecutive decision. On January 6, 2023, the Department informed the OIG that it declined prosecution.”

According to the OIG, Rollins sought to help Boston City Councilman Ricardo Arroyo in the Democratic primary for Suffolk’s district attorney by providing derogatory information to the Boston Globe and Boston Herald regarding his opponent, then-interim D.A. Kevin Hayden. The OIG said the information included “non-public, sensitive” DOJ material that Rollins acquired as a result of her federal position. The material suggested that Hayden was being investigated for public corruption.
