‘F*** That’ — Boris Johnson Refuses to Step Down as Resignations Continue

Kurt Zindulka 6 Jul 2022

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has reportedly vowed to continue to fight for his political life and attempt to cling on to the keys of Number 10 Downing Street after two high-profile resignations from his cabinet and a string of junior ministers quitting their posts have rocked confidence in his ability to hold onto power.

In dramatic Westminster fashion, Health Secretary Sajid Javid and Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak resigned within minutes of each other on Tuesday evening following the admission from Boris Johnson that he was aware of historic sex pest allegations made against Christopher Pincher MP and despite this, still elevated him to become his deputy chief whip.

When pressed on whether the resignations of Javid and Sunak would precipitate his own departure from government, Mr Johnson told an aid on Tuesday evening: “F*** that”, Britain’s paper of record, The Times of London reported.

Continuing into the morning, a series of junior government ministers and other officials have also resigned, including Parliamentary private secretaries Jonathan Gullis, Saqib Bhatti, Nicola Richards, Virginia Crosbie, Laura Trott, Tory Party vice-chairman Bim Afolami, and trade envoys to Morrocco and Kenya, Andrew Murrison and Theodora Clarke.

Three ministers have also tendered their resignations, including Solicitor General Alex Chalk, and education ministers Robin Walker and Will Quince. Economic Secretary to the Treasury, the sixth-most senior ministerial post in the Treasury, MP John Glen also quit his governmental post on Wednesday morning, saying that the “country deserves better” than the “poor judgement” shown by Mr Johnson.

Announcing his departure from the government on Wednesday morning, Mr Quince said that he felt it necessary to resign after spreading false narratives surrounding Johnson’s knowledge of the accusations against Pincher fed to him from Downing Street.

Quince said that he had been given a “categorical assurance” that the PM was not aware of such allegations, yet, on the following day this was reversed with Number 10 claiming that the PM had “forgot” being briefed and Johnson apologising for promoting Pincher.

What's the big deal, just a politician being a sexual predator. I seem to recall the Brits were right there with the response 'it's just sex' when we were rightfully disgusted and angered with Bill's cigar antics in the oval office.

UK in spiral as Boris Johnson faces crumbling support: 'The noose is tightening'

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson faces an increasingly desperate struggle to hold onto his job as his Conservative Party turned against him following yet another scandal. Former close allies and supporters alike have seemingly lost confidence in his leadership.

The powerful backbencher 1922 Committee, which governs the Conservative Party rules and procedures, has decided to elect a new committee on Monday that will then look at changing rules to allow another "no-confidence vote" against Johnson after 38 ministers resigned over revelations that the prime minister hired an accused sex offender to a senior role in government.

Johnson initially denied reports that he had received a complaint that MP Chris Pincher allegedly groped guests at private gatherings over the past eight months – a man he later elevated to deputy chief whip.

However, Lord Simon McDonald of Salford, the former head of the diplomatic services, said Johnson was made aware of the complaints, forcing Johnson to instead claim he "forgot."

"Mr Johnson was briefed in person about the initiative and outcome of the investigation. There was a 'formal complaint'," the former head of the diplomatic service said in a letter to Katherine Stone, the parliamentary standards commissioner...............

From the article:

Boris Johnson is to resign as prime minister.

Mr Johnson has spoken to Tory 1922 Committee chairman Sir Graham Brady and agreed to stand down, with a new Tory leader set to be in place by the party conference in October, a No 10 source said.

It comes after his newly appointed Education Secretary Michelle Donelan resigned after 36 hours in the post, Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi told the prime minister to "go now" and Defence Secretary Ben Wallace withdrew his support.

As it stands right now, Johnson will resign today as Conservative Party leader.  He wants to stay on as caretaker PM through the Fall to give the Party time to choose a new leader.  He's getting some serious pushback on this.

British PM Boris Johnson steps down after scandals prompt a wave of resignations
In a remarkable twist, Johnson was abandoned by the finance and education ministers he had promoted just 36 hours earlier in a bid to cling to power.

LONDON — Scandal-ridden British Prime Minister Boris Johnson capitulated to mounting pressure to step down Thursday, announcing his decision after days of high-profile government resignations and calls from fellow Conservative Party members to quit.

“In the past few weeks, I have been trying to convince my colleagues it would be eccentric to change governments when we have achieved so much,” he said in his speech outside No. 10 Downing St. amid loud booing from the crowd nearby. “I regret not to be successful in those arguments and, of course, it’s painful not to be able to see through those projects myself.”

Johnson also said he planned to remain as prime minister until a successor is chosen — a move that may face opposition from others in an increasingly hostile Parliament. ...  NBC News

That's like asking for the Uvalde's school police chief to resign as chief but to remain on for awhile to clean up the mess he made due to his incompetence in permitting kids to be murdered.
