House Bill Would Allow Military to Perform, Fund Abortions

“Reproductive rights cannot and should not end when you put on our nation’s uniform,” Rep. Sara Jacobs said.

More than 80 Democratic lawmakers introduced a bill on Friday that would allow military medical facilities to perform and pay for abortions for service members and dependents, even if Roe v. Wade is overturned.

The Military Access to Reproductive Care and Health, or MARCH, for Military Servicemembers Act would ensure that abortion remains available to women stationed in the more than two dozen states expected to ban the procedure if the Supreme Court sweeps away Americans’ right to it.

“The fallout for our servicemembers and their families will be catastrophic, as is the threat to our military readiness, morale, and unit cohesion,” said Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., chair of the House Armed Services Military Personnel Subcommittee. “Abortion care isn’t a privilege, it is standard health care essential to one’s ability to determine their own destiny….Our brave servicemembers deserve the same access to basic health care as the people they are fighting to protect.”

In other words, your right to murder your unborn child because you made a huge mistake and didn't use contraception should not end when you put on the nation's uniform. :pondering:

In my experiences, most of the single "mothers" in uniform are because they want to be.

It gets them out of PT and weight requirements (waivered), if in a physically "demanding" job, out of their normal duties, gets them out of deployments or other overseas rotations, etc.

They are not held accountable for the impact their lack of judgement creates within the workplace, if anything, they're coddled and rewarded, while those in the workplace are forced to pick up the slack and "punished" with extra work.

Most end up getting early separation if they can't develop a valid family care plan.

So, IMO, I don't think there's going to be much demand for this except for maybe the dependapotamuses.

Oh, I should add that many military installations no longer offer "procedures" of any substantial complexity.

Many hospitals at bases have been replaced with clinics and almost all medical care is referred to off-base providers.

So this is going to be very limited in its possible impact/scope given that there are currently 32 military hospitals in the US.
