Turtle crossing road causes 3-car crash in New Jersey

They were on a highway to shell.

A turtle caused a three-car crash when a considerate Cape May, New Jersey, driver stopped to let it inch across the road — and triggered a chain of rear-endings, officials said.

The driver hit the brakes while motoring in Stone Harbor — a well-known hub for sea turtle nesting and street crossings — on Tuesday to avoid crushing the slow-moving critter, fire officials said in a Facebook post.

The car behind the vehicle then slammed into it, and a third car crashed into both of them, according to a Facebook post from Stone Harbor Volunteer Fire Company No. 1.

All three of the cars were badly damaged on Stone Harbor Boulevard, but nobody was injured.

Years ago my dad's secretary was killed when a driver swerved to miss hitting a dog on the freeway and hit her car causing her death.
