Historic West Virginia Catholic church burned to ground by arsonist, police say

A historic Catholic church in West Virginia burned to the ground this weekend, and police are now investigating the incident as arson.

St. Colman Catholic Church was already a smoldering ruin when firefighters from the Beaver Volunteer Fire Department arrived to the scene Sunday morning. The church was built in 1878 and was declared an official historical site in 1984.

Authorities have not released information about potential suspects.

Police encouraged anyone with information about the arson to contact Trooper D. Daniels at (304) 256-6700, the WV State Fire Marshal’s Arson Hotline at 1 (800) 233-3473 or Crime Stoppers of Raleigh County at 304-255-STOP or crimestopperswv.com.

The alleged arson comes as Catholic churches across the U.S. and in Canada have faced a spate of vandalism and arson attacks in recent years.

The church burnings rose amid protests against Canada's now-defunct residential schools program. The program saw Catholic-run schools tasked with forcibly assimilating indigenous children from the late 1800's to 1970................

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
The US had these 'Indian Schools' as well. These were boarding schools where the kids were forbidden to speak their native tongue, or to practice many of the traditional beliefs or behaviours.

What has this church in rural WV to do with Canada's Indian schools? Why was that even mentioned in the story?

I don't know; this was a poorly written article, but the news is that a historic Catholic church was destroyed.  Sad!!

Another report:

St. Colman Catholic Church, a historic church located in Raleigh County, West Virginia, burned to the ground in an apparent arson attack Sunday, according to the local volunteer fire department.

The small, white building was known as "The Little Catholic Church on Irish Mountain," and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The original structure dates to 1877-1888, according to the register.

“On 6/26/2022 units from Beaver VFD were alerted to a structure fire at the Saint Colman Catholic Church on Irish Mountain Road in Shady Spring, WV,” the Beaver Volunteer Fire Department said in an online post.

Once the department arrived at the scene, the church had already burned to the ground and was “smoldering,” the post says. The post says the fire is considered “suspicious in nature.” The fire is being investigated as arson, the post says.

St. Colman's is located in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston. CNA contacted the diocese for more information but no one was immediately available for comment Monday morning. .................

It's very possible it was related to the Dobbs decision. Meanwhile, elsewhere in W.Va., someone called in a bomb threat to the historic Greenbrier Resort (Story here). What the heck? Do this crap in California or Oregon, please.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

But the Left has to make the Catholic Church appear to be deserving of destruction, for standing up against things like abortion and homosexual marriage an' stuff, so they will drag in whatever historical roadkill from wherever to push that notion, and any more that whole mindset is hardwired into a journalism degree.

The reality is that a Historical Landmark and religious site has been destroyed.

And deep down, they're okay with that.

Unfortunately so many incidents of arson, rioting and assaults have gone unpunished that I believe we are slowly going to see the violence slowly seep into most areas.
