Now see, I would probably bet him he couldn't eat THREE scoops... With sprinkles. And a waffle cone...
THEN bring him home.

No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

I can still remember when I was limber enough to do this.

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Where do you get this stuff, @corbe ?
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

I'm so old I need to start using a tag line that says " I used to know, but I forgot."

It bothers me that I can't do most of the things that I used to do; heck I can't even comfortably sit down.

I used to be able to clean the entire house in hours -- now it takes days -- I do a couple of rooms at a time.  **nononono*

My daughter comes over and does the weeding in the butterfly garden - I can't pull as it hurts my back. **nononono*

Forgetfulness is settling in too.

   That one I borrowed from https://thenewamericanist.com/official-sunday-open-thread-118/ @Hoodat

I figured that somewhere on the internet, there was a site called 'CoolStuffThatCorbePosts' chock full of funny stuff.

Tagline @sneakypete ? Heck that is my standard answer

Besides all that we had so much knowledge stored up we needed to purge. NOBODY needs that much knowledge!

The thing that bothers me is how people start treating you. Like you are some kind of imbecile. But I've decided to use that to my benefit. Old and clueless (even though I'm not) is more advantageous than young and cute. In many ways.

That directly applies to languages. I hear a sentence or a word and I know that I used to know all of that. It is so weird to know that you used to know something so easily, but now you can't remember. In other words, it is weird to know directly what you have forgotten. Why wouldn't I forget that ever knew it?

But languages and math are like that. They are both use it or lose it knowledge.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

That's right... But old ears can hear some funny dang things. And old eyes can see print in hilarious ways.

I actually heard my sainted mother say 'Pull that damn clicker out of your butt' ... Now I don't remember anymore what it was that she actually said that I heard that way... But those words never left her mouth. How they got in my ears is a mystery to me. But pretty friggin funny.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I gotcha about the being treated like an imbecile. On occasion, I remind the guy I work for that I was doing this when he wasn't a twinkle in his daddy's eye. That I was working with computers using punch cards and paper tape, and remember when the PC became something.

It isn't that I can't use the platform, just that I refuse to use it for some things.

If you could have had your life history, your web activity all recorded, your reading habits, music, shopping and banking all in one hand held unit in the 1970s (like a phone), Would you?
While I appreciate the access that tech gives me (when it isn't behind a paywall), I prefer to keep that partitioned.
Likely not, as we were all more conscious of our privacy then, and less likely to put that many eggs in one basket.

I cut them. Tearing them is likely to pull out important stitching.

This may not be true for everyone, but so many of the significant people in my life have already passed. So, being without them is the worst part, although I did vote for watching my country fall apart.

That is so profound and often overlooked @AllThatJazzZ though I sometimes look at it as curse.
