Did this have anything to do with the fact that this woman is Hindu? The possibility cannot be discounted. The life of a non-Muslim is worth less than that of a Muslim, according to Islamic law. Reliance of the Traveller, a classic manual of Islamic sacred law, explains matter-of-factly that “the indemnity for the death or injury of a woman is one-half the indemnity paid for a man. The indemnity paid for a Jew or Christian is one-third the indemnity paid for a Muslim. The indemnity paid for a Zoroastrian is one-fifteenth that of a Muslim.” (o4.9)

On Sunday, June 19, the staff of the government-run Rural health centre (RHC) in the Sindh province in Pakistan reportedly cut off a newborn baby’s head and left the severed head in the mother’s womb, putting the woman’s life in jeopardy.

This was also an attempt to murder the woman, since the unremoved head would become the source of a potentially fatal infection.

Sadly, Muslims and Hindus have been fighting each other, in varying degrees, in that area for on the order of 12 centuries.
