This is huge!  Another reason why we should stop sending billions to Ukraine -- we need to ramp up our own military capabilities.  Joe's already stated he will defend Taiwan.

China claims to have intercepted ballistic missile in flight

The Chinese military has successfully intercepted a ballistic missile in flight, China's Ministry of Defense claimed in a late Sunday statement.

A Chinese statement clarified that the test was defensive in nature and was not intended as a threat to any nation, according to the Washington Times.

The development comes as China is growing increasingly aggressive toward Taiwan, an independent island nation that China has long claimed as its own territory.

China has sent numerous bomber and fighter-jet flights into Taiwan's air-defense zone in recent months. While the U.S. maintains friendly relations with Taiwan, it has not expressly vowed to intervene should China choose to invade the country..............

I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

Intercepting one's own missile, in a test designed to "show" that the ABM system works, is a far cry from actually doing it in reality.  The U.S., btw, already has a robust ABM capability.
