Nothing says, "Thanks, Mr. Lincoln, for freeing the slaves," like a good old-fashioned riot.

A 15-year-old boy is dead and three people wounded, including a D.C. police officer, after a shooting at an unpermitted Juneteenth event at 14th and U Streets in Northwest Sunday evening, police said.

Social media had promoted a free music event known as Moechella and several hundred people were gathering in the area around 6 p.m., Police Chief Robert J. Contee III said. The music event did not have a permit.  ...

Contee said that an “incident or fight” broke out around 6 p.m., causing people to scatter shortly before officers shut down the event. In the interim, he said, weapons were found in the unpermitted event area.

The shooting began as first responders were attempting to help attendees who were hurt while running from the event. He said the events occurred between 6 and 8:30 p.m. ...

The cop is in stable condition.

Eyewitness video shows people dancing, twerking and then chaos.
Well, twerking inevitably does lead to chaos.  More from Todd Starnes

"Peaceful," huh? Then why the fractured Capitol dome?

A 15-year-old boy was killed and three others, including a police officer, suffered gunshot wounds during a shooting at a music festival in Washington, DC Sunday evening.

Gunfire erupted on a street corner as crowds began to disperse from the “advocacy” festival called Moechella — which officers had shut down moments earlier over dangerous conditions.

The event was advertised as a peaceful demonstration at 14th and U Street celebrating Juneteenth, but police described a chaotic scene where several illegal guns were recovered over the course of two-and-a-half hours. ...

The suspect in the shooting remains at large.

Contee and Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, who also spoke at the press conference, said the event organizers should be held accountable for the dangerous situation.

“We have a child that was killed today at an event that did not have any proper planning for the number of people who were here,” Bowser said. “Even with our police managing a crowd on site, somebody used a gun and a child is dead. We need some accountability here.”

14th & U Street NW is the 'new' Dupont Circle of Washington, D.C..
Okay...not "THAT" new, compared to what's going on near NATIONAL'S PARK and Anacostia Waterfront.   happy77

The famous "BEN'S CHILI BOWL" is just a block away from the shootings last night.

  • I don't believe in Trump anymore, he's an illusion

How would have "proper planning" stopped animals from bringing guns to the event and shooting people? Maybe the problem is with da yutes and not the planning?

Juneteenth is a "holiday" created for the express purpose of causing violent behavior by encouraging black hatred of anybody who isn't "black enough."  It's just like Ramadan.  No mention that it's supposed to be a holiday celebrating Republicans taking the last of the Democrats' slaves away in Texas.

Happy Juneteenth everybody!
For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16
I will NOT comply.

For as many decades as I can remember, it was just a day for black folks to have street parties or festivals at the park, which is fine. Of course, the yoots used it as an excuse for misbehavior, as so many of those events devolved into violence. Now we all get to celebrate! I noticed the library and the bank was closed today; no postal service. We all benefit, somehow.  *****rollingeyes*****

Remember the big deal they make every year about Washington's and Lincoln's birthdays? Neither do I.
But we're all supposed to jump up and down about some minor event which created another holiday to try to appease blacks.
Why don't they just declare every month as black history month and every day is to celebrate blacks? I've had it up to here.
Every federal worker will love this new holiday while most people, blacks and non-blacks, will shrug their shoulders and roll their eyes about it.
"What is it about again Mommy?" "Sorry, I forgot dear, something about black people in Texas."

Why not celebrate the actual date of the Emancipation Proclamation instead of the date a few folks in Galveston first heard about it? Hadn't countless other formerly enslaved persons already heard the news by then, considering the war was long over? I'm just puzzled.

In theory there's nothing wrong with a holiday to commemorate emancipation, but "Juneteenth" exists not to celebrate freedom but to divide and promote white guilt. Advocates of the holiday have been clear about their intentions, including Biden when he made it a federal holiday.

It’s a poorly chosen minor and regional holiday that fails to capture the historical importance and national project found in both the Emancipation and the 13th amendment. It doesn’t mark the end of Slavery in the US one bit. I love the spirit but it was an awful political choice

Memo to the white folk:

It's in your best interests to avoid any "juneteenth" celebration and crowds by a wide margin.
In fact, the further one can distance one's self from the area, the better.
(with a tip o' the hat to John Derbyshire)
