 Undocumented Migrants Lost in the Jacumba Mountains

OCOTILLO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents from El Centro Sector rescued five undocumented individuals in the Jacumba Wilderness region Wednesday afternoon.

At approximately 12 p.m., Sector Communications notified El Centro station of a 9-1-1 call received from a local police department regarding five lost migrants in distress and in need of assistance in the mountains of El Centro’s area of responsibility. Agents were notified of the distress call and the last known GPS coordinates provided by the distress individuals.

An aircraft from Customs Border and Protection’ Air and Marine Operations branch assisted in the search and at approximately 12:20 p.m., located the individuals a mile north of the U.S./Mexico border. Agents were notified of their location and made contact with the individuals shortly after.

So, how do so-called "refugees" get a GPS system that lets them radio their coordinates to someone else?
