President Joe Biden pushed for more gun control on Monday, even though it was Memorial Day, a national patriotic holiday.

“The Constitution, the Second Amendment was never absolute,” Biden said to reporters.

The president spoke to reporters about gun control as he returned to Washington, DC, from Delaware for Memorial Day ceremonies.

Biden falsely claimed again that Americans were unable to purchase a cannon when the Second Amendment was passed, despite being repeatedly fact-checked as false by even the Washington Post and Politifact.

“You couldn’t buy a cannon when the Second Amendment was passed and you couldn’t go out and purchase a lot of weapons,” he said.

Biden recalled a briefing he had when he was a senator on bullet calibers and the damage they caused to the human body.

“The 22 caliber bullet will lodge in the lungs and we can get it out,” Biden said. “A 9 mm bullet blows the lung out of the body.”

“The idea of a high caliber weapon, there is no rationale for it in terms of self-protection, hunting,” he said.

Biden also referred to a quote from Thomas Jefferson who said “the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants,” tying it in with his argument about the Second Amendment.

“There was a while there, where people were saying, you know, the tree of liberty is watered with the blood of patriots, and what we have to do is to be able take on the government when they are wrong,” Biden said.

Biden argued in order for citizens to hold the government accountable with equal levels of force, Americans would have to own a fighter jet or a tank.

The entire Bill of Rights is based upon individual freedoms and yes, Joe - all such rights are the birthrights of human beings that legitimate, constitutional governments must never violate.   

You want to try to take away 400 million guns from American citizens while you intentionally allow millions of non-citizens into our country just so that we taxpayers can support them?

    President Biden on Monday took aim at 9mm handguns, appearing to suggest that the "high-caliber weapons" ought to be banned.

The president made the remarks outside the White House after returning from a visit to the site of a mass shooting in Texas where 21 people, including 19 elementary school children, were killed last week.

Recounting a visit to a New York trauma hospital, Biden said doctors showed him X-rays of gunshot wounds.

"They said a .22-caliber bullet will lodge in the lung, and we can probably get it out — may be able to get it and save the life. A 9mm bullet blows the lung out of the body," Biden said.

"So, the idea of these high-caliber weapons is, uh, there’s simply no rational basis for it in terms of self-protection, hunting," Biden added. "Remember, the constitution was never absolute."

"You couldn’t buy a cannon when the Second Amendment was passed," Biden said. "You couldn’t go out and purchase a lot of weaponry."

The president, however, ruled out the possibility of issuing an executive order on guns, saying: "I can’t dictate this stuff."

 Gun activists who claim they need the type of weapons used in a pair of deadly mass shootings earlier this month to defend themselves from hypothetical government tyranny would be hopelessly outgunned, President Joe Biden has said.

Mr Biden, who spoke to reporters upon returning to the White House for Memorial Day, said he has been “pretty motivated” to enact new gun safety laws long before he travelled to Ulvalde, Texas to meet with the families of victims and survivors of the mass shooting that claimed 21 lives at Robb Elementary School last week.

He said he has made a point of eschewing negotiations with Republicans until he visited the tragedy-struck town, and said the pain he encountered there was “palpable,” and he told reporters it was “hard to say” if the GOP would accept any of the proposals that have been floated in the last week.

But the president stressed that he could not “dictate” gun policy through executive action save for the actions he has taken so far in his term.  ...

 Continuing, the president said those who say they need AR-15 rifles to “take on the government” are “wrong” because the weapons they would need aren’t legal to own.

“To do that you need an F-15, you need an Abrams tank,” he said.  ...

CLAIM: On Memorial Day 2022 President Biden claimed a 9mm bullet will “blow the lung out of the body.”

VERDICT: False.

The 9mm round is widely popular for concealed carry because it has effective stopping/penetrating power without significant recoil. The round’s stopping power is also attractive for law enforcement, but that power does not translate into blowing organs out of the body.

Breitbart News spoke to a Navy SEAL (ret.), who is a ballistics expert, and his response to Biden’s statement was, “No way.”

We spoke to a federal agent with 15 years experience in the field, and his response was “bullsh*t.”

We spoke to another individual who has been a federal agent for nearly 20 years and was a local police officer for years before that, and he responded to Biden’s statement by saying, “Not possible.”

We also spoke to a member of a U.S. Marshal fugitive recovery taskforce who has been on the job for 21 years. When we told him what Biden said he laughed out loud and said, “That’s not even in the realm of possibility.”

We asked, “Do you use a 9mm round?”

He said, “Yes, and it is a hollowpoint, but that simply creates a better wound channel, it does not blow lungs or other organs out.”

We told the fugitive recovery taskforce member that Biden also categorized 9mm under “high caliber weapons,” and he laughed again and said, “9mm is the smallest round we use.”

Breitbart News has pointed out that Biden has falsely claimed, numerous times, that the Second Amendment barred early Americans from buying cannons.
