Uvalde Officials Leave School Unlocked, Ignored Classroom Lock Maintenance

Bob Price and Randy Clark 21 Jun 2022

Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw revealed critical school safety violations that contributed to the shooter being able to access the Robb Elementary School building and classrooms. The district also failed to correct at least one maintenance issue that kept the specific classroom door where the shooting took place from being lockable.

DPS Director Colonel McCraw told the Texas Senate on Tuesday that the south and west doors were placed into an unlocked setting, State Senator Paul Bettencourt (R-Houston) told Breitbart Texas Tuesday. The doors were routinely left unlocked in direct violation of the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District’s school safety directive, he related.

The director also testified that the door to classroom 1112 (one of two classrooms where the shooting took place) could not be locked because the steel plate on the frame did not line up with the door’s bolt mechanism. DPS investigators verified that teacher Arnulfo Reyes previously reported the maintenance issue.

“Director McCraw testified the only way to check for sure is from the outside (of the classroom) with a key,” the senator told Breitbart.

The shooter entered the school through the unlocked south door and walked directly to the classroom with the malfunctioning lock, Texas DPS officials told Breitbart. Senator Bettencourt and DPS officials told Breitbart the shooter attended Robb Elementary School in this particular classroom as a younger child.

Uvalde school district police and other officials appeared to be unaware that the door to classroom 1112 could not be locked. In a timeline released on Tuesday during the Senate hearing, multiple officers reported trying to find keys to unlock the door.

At 12:09 p.m. a Uvalde police officer says, “Go around and get the master key to the rooms.” Less than three minutes later, UCISD Police Chief Arrendondo called for a master key, per the timeline document.

At 12:16 p.m., shortly after a BORTAC Border Patrol agent arrived on scene, Chief Arrendondo said, “I just need a key.”

Eleven minutes later, the chief said, “The door is probably going to be locked. That’s the nature of this place. I am going to get more keys to test.” He then complained that the master keys were not working.

“We have the master keys and they’re not working.”

At 12:30, the chief said,” We’re ready to breach, but that door is locked.” Three minutes later he added, “I say we breach through those windows and shoot his bleep head off through the windows.”

A halligan breaching tool arrived at approximately 12:36, the timeline indicates. Six minutes later, the chief again says the door is locked.

“We’re having a bleep problem getting into the room because it is locked. They gotta get that bleep door open, bro. They can’t get that door open. We need more keys or something.”

At 12:46, the chief told the breach team to go ahead if they were ready. A sledge hammer arrived a minute later and the team entered the classroom at 12:50, bringing the incident to a close when a BORTAC agent shot and killed the shooter.

In addition to ignoring the prior classroom 1112 maintenance request, the district also ignored damaged security fencing.

The Uvalde School Preventative Security Measures policy document states:

11: PERIMETER FENCING – Dalton, Anthon, and Robb have fencing that encloses the campus is designed to limit and/or restrict access to individuals without a need to be on the campus.

17: LOCKED CLASSROOM DOOR POLICY – Teachers are instructed to keep their classroom doors closed and locked at all times. Barriers are not to be used.

Senator Bettencourt told Breitbart that there are multiple breaches in the fencing. Instead of repairing the gaps, the district strung rope. The fence is also only four feet tall–allowing the shooter to easily enter the school perimeter.

Wow.  That goes beyond mere dereliction of duty.

This is one of those situations where lives would have been saved if Arredondo had simply stayed at home.

Officer husband of slain Uvalde teacher was detained, had gun taken away after trying to save wife
Texas DPS director said Eva Mireles told her husband she ‘had been shot and was dying’

UVALDE, Texas – Shocking testimony from the Texas DPS director on Tuesday has revealed even more insight into the “abject failure” of response to the Uvalde shooting that occurred on May 24.

Texas Department of Public Safety Director Col. Steven McCraw revealed that the husband of slain elementary teacher Eva Mireles tried to save her but was barred from doing so.

Ruben Ruiz is a police officer for the school district
and was on the scene after the gunman entered the school and opened fire.

McCraw said Mireles called Ruiz and told him that “she had been shot and was dying.”

“And what happened to him, is he tried to move forward into the hallway,” McCraw said. “He was detained and they took his gun away from him and escorted him off the scene.”

McCraw didn’t say who specifically detained Ruiz. ...

Yeah. It goes into the territory that feeds untidy conspiracy theories about 'someone' wanting to maximize the body count.

People need to understand that Pete Arredondo isn't the police chief for all of Uvalde

The door between the shooter and the police was unlocked. The police could have engaged the shooter within 3 minutes. They did nothing for an hour. The Chief lied about what happened to cover his ass.

No words can make up for this failure of action.

I feel Arrendondo will not be able to continue to live among his neighbors whose kids he decided to exterminate like vermin.

An ideal DC swamp creature, so Biden will likely pick him to lead some position of authority within his administration.

IOW, "He had ONE job!"

@Cyber Liberty

In that case,he SHOULD have been in his office INSIDE the school,or patrolling the hallways (given he seems to weigh twice as much as he should, patrolling seems to be out of the question).

Either way,I wan to hear his excuse for NOT being in the building and personally confronting the shooter.

And then I want to see him buried in law suits from the parents of the children who died.

Seeing as how he is of the preferred race and a Po-Po on top of that,we all KNOW he is never going to be charged with any crimes, unless there is a REALLY minor crime that he can be charged with that will somehow make him immune to law suits.

It is more likely that Black Lives Matter will adopt him like they did Saint George. Hell, they might even put up a statue of him in the town square, sitting at his desk and eating donuts.

Where there any black children murdered? If there were,I don't remember reading about it,and black children being murdered hits the ebenin national news ifn hit bees a cracka or beaner what kills dem.

Uvalde mayor Don McLaughlin claims head of Texas DPS is lying or leaking info about police response

By MaryAnn Martinez
June 21, 2022

The mayor of Uvalde, Texas says the head of the state’s department of public safety is lying or leaking information after devastating testimony from the head of the Texas DPS earlier today, blaming the failed police response to the school shooting that claimed 21 lives on the Uvalde school district police chief.

“The gloves are off,” said Mayor Don McLaughlin. “As we know it, we will share it. We are not going to hold back. We kept quiet at the request because we thought we were doing an investigation and doing the right thing but yet, they can go to Austin and have public deals and talk about different things and don’t share anything with this city.”

McLaughlin said he’s been unable to get information for himself or the grieving families of 19 students and two teachers killed at Robb Elementary School he represents from DPS, the governor’s office and any other agency. Along with the rest of the country, he learned details about the investigator Tuesday, as DPS Director Col. Steve McCraw testified before a special Texas Senate committee today publicly.

“The only thing stopping a hallway of dedicated officers from entering room 111 and 112 was the on-scene commander who decided to place the lives of officers before the lives of children,” Texas DPS Director Steve McCraw told the committee about Uvalde Consolidated ISD Police Chief Pete Arrendondo.

Arredondo himself was the subject of a Uvalde City Council vote Tuesday night, as McLaughlin and the other city council members unanimously voted to deny the police chief, who is also a city council member, a leave of absence.

“Colonel McMcraw, whether you want to call it a lie, leak, mislead or misstate information in order to distance his own troopers and Rangers from the (law enforcement) response,” said McLaughlin. “Every briefing, he leaves out the numbers of his own officers and Rangers that were on scene that day.

Sadly,I suspect the "real cops" are in the minority these days, and the posers dominate.
Over the years I have gotten to know most of the SRO's and about 1/3 of the Deputies as well as the Sheriff both in an official capacity and casual way. Most of them have kids, or relatives connected to the district. In a situation like this I am certain the discussion would be "No I'm going first, the rest of you can be second". My first or second year we had a report that a student was bringing a gun to school. The SRO and our biggest Assistant Principal came down to my room and quietly escorted the student out. The SRO had his hand on his 9mm the whole time, but cool calm and collected the whole time.
In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

By all known presented information so far, the Police/Sheriff showed up to "protect" the shooter. All they did was to use their weapons and authority to 'prevent' anyone from stopping the massacre of tiny children. When asked why they supported and protected the shooter instead of the children, why they attacked the public/parents instead of the perpetrator, their response was, "We could have been shot!" Well geewhiz guys, that's exactly why you have guns.

The border patrol went against the "order of protection" for the shooter, pushed all the fat overweight anchor Cops out of the way and shot the guy. Without border patrol heroic intervention, the shooter may still be there to this day. Obviously the LEOs on the scene were more interested in protecting the shooter and their own selves than they cared about the children being shot and killed within earshot of all of them.

The simple truth is, had the school police not shown up, more children would have lived.
