I disagree. I am ZERO percent spiritual,and I was just thinking we need to bring back burning at the stake for crimes like this.

Try to make the horror of the execution match the horror of the deed. I know that is not really possible,but let's get as close to it as we can.

These people KNOW that chances are they will never live long enough to be executed for these crimes,and will probably get private rooms away from gen pop to keep them safe.

Take that away and make execution MANDATORY within 30 days of conviction,AND make viewing it mandatory for ALL prisoners in all federal prisons in the country.

Also,encourage getting your local PD's to make it mandatory viewing for every prisoner they have in local lockups.

Take away the "fame and the glory",and make their deaths a done deal in a short time,and it just MIGHT be enough to scare away at some some of them. I,personally think this would eliminate the majority of these mass slayings,but I am just guessing.

*I* THINK that these mass murderers are all "attention whores",and they do it dreaming of all the press they will get,as well as the tv "appearances" they will get while being led into and out of courtrooms.

Take this away from them by REQUIRING execution within 30 days of conviction,and I THINK most of it will go away. No need for a long court review of the conviction because it will all be reported every day anyhow,AND there will be videos of them being arrested at the scene of the murders.

The first school shooting I was aware of was that of Brenda Spenser in January 1979. Probably because of the song that came out in July 79 by the Boomtown Rats and was all over the radio.

What I think has changed is the lack of community and sense of belonging, our cities have just gotten so large that nobody knows each other. Also a reason for this I believe is our oh so convenient modern world, instead of people socializing(both children and and adults) after school and work most tune into the TV or get lost on the computer and video games. This is why I think, say the 50's, was better than now even with all the advances. Too much has been lost by too many and those that get involved with sports and other group interactions are too few.

Anybody else remember as recently as the mid-60's,bringing your gun and ammo to school with you and keeping it in your locker so you could go hunting with friends after school?

And NOBODY cared?

Granted,nobody in the city did this because there was nothing to hunt in the city,but I am guessing it was fairly common all over the country in rural areas.

Hell,I remember bring my antique 12 gauge double-barrel shotgun to elementary school after discussing guns with the principle during a recess,and his asking to look at it. Took it on the bus with me,and nobody even blinked.

Good thing we had really strict gun control back then,huh?

I was teaching at a rural school district in the 90's, up until Columbine, kids kept a rifle or shotgun in a rack in  the back window of the pickup truck. No one ever said a word. Heck my teaching partner used to show the kids how to reblue barrels, in the school. He and the Chemistry teacher made a lesson out of it.
