World Economic Forum Chief Praises China for Planting Trees to Fight Climate Change

The Chinese propaganda website ECNS.CN is reporting the chief of the World Economic Forum praised the Chinese Communist Party charged with genocide against minorities for its commitment to plant trees to fight climate change.

“We appreciate China’s effort in supporting the 1t.org initiative of the World Economic Forum and relevant UN initiatives,” WEF Chairman Klaus Schwab was reported to have said in the article. “We highly appreciate China’s practices upholding relative international commitment such as the Paris Agreement and Biodiversity target through Nature-Based Solutions.”

The website reported:

    The World Economic Forum (WEF) said it appreciates China’s commitment to plant 70 billion trees in the next 10 years, according to its official website on Wednesday.

    The WEF and China Green Foundation will undertake concrete measures together to support the fulfillment of the contribution in China, it added.

    “China responds actively to contribute to the 1t.org initiative from the World Economic Forum, and I am announcing here that China aims to plant and conserve 70 billion trees within 10 years to green our planet, combat climate change, and increase forest carbon sinks,” said Xie Zhenhua, China’s Special Envoy for Climate Change, at the Forum’s 2022 Annual Meeting in Davos on Tuesday.

China may point a few trees in China, but is clearcuting vast tracts around the world in rainforest to bolster its access to resources.

Archbishop Fulton Sheen’s definition of the intelligentsia — those educated beyond their intelligence — illuminates the current gathering of global powerbrokers and intellectuals in Davos, Switzerland, at the World Economic Forum.

Discussing sophisticated and lofty issues like climate change and the transition to green energy, attendees nod and applaud at one another’s remarks, marveling at their own detached brilliance all while ignoring their own enormous carbon footprint spewed by their private jets and yachts.

One can only wonder if they are reading the same headlines the rest of us are.

“Much of the U.S. could see power blackouts this summer,” declares National Public Radio. “Blackouts possible this summer,” affirms CNN. And to be sure this isn’t just titillating headlines for clicks, the Biden administration’s Department of Energy has recently published a how-to guide preparing your home for a blackout. ...

The World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, has just ended. The theme of the five-day event, “Working Together, Restoring Trust,” was both vague and troubling, in equal measures. ...

Among the many issues discussed, members focused on the spread of misinformation and disinformation. How, they asked, can the proliferation of harmful content be combatted? It’s easy, they answered, how about introducing digital IDs?

The WEF recently rolled out the Global Coalition for Digital Safety, an initiative designed to “accelerate public-private cooperation to tackle harmful content online.” In an effort to remedy the scourge of malicious material, the WEF has brought together a “diverse group of leaders who are well placed to exchange best practices for new online safety regulation and help millions of connected citizens improve digital media literacy.”

These “diverse leaders” include head honchos at the likes of Google, Microsoft, Interpol, and a number of government ministers. Another coalition member is Yoti, a company that strives to make the internet a safer place. How so? Through the use of digital IDs.

The dangers posed by digital IDs cannot be emphasized enough. As the researcher Brett Solomon—a man “who has tracked the advantages and perils of technology for human rights” for well over a decade—previously noted, the mass rollout of digital IDs “poses one of the gravest risks to human rights of any technology that we have encountered.”  ...
