Rand Paul objection delays $40 billion Ukraine aid package

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) hit the brakes Thursday on bipartisan hopes that the Senate could quickly pass nearly $40 billion in Ukraine aid before leaving town for the week.

Paul objected to a deal offered by Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) that would have set up votes on Thursday afternoon on the funding and on an amendment from Paul, who wanted to include language in the bill to expand an Afghanistan inspector general role to include oversight of the Ukraine funds.

Paul blocked the votes because he wants his language inserted into the text of the bill instead of having to take his chance with an amendment vote, which could be blocked. The stalemate will delay the Senate’s passage of the Ukraine package until at least next week, and potentially beyond.

“I think they’re going to have to go through the long way,” Paul told The Hill about what comes next after the floor standoff.

Rand Paul is not even against the Ukraine bill on principle, he merely says that a condition for him to accept expedited passage would be to include a provision requiring "the appointment of an inspector general to oversee the funding." But apparently that's evil Putin propaganda

All I requested is an amendment to be included in the final bill that allows for the Inspector General to oversee how funds are spent. Anyone who is opposed to this is irresponsible.

I see the $40, 000, 000, 000, forty thousand million U.S. dollars, getting shunted away somewhere in some foreign account waiting to be laundered back to the American politicians who voted for it with some percentage actually going to Zelinsky.

As soon as that happens, Putin will die or be replaced. The invasion will be called off. Then a snatch and grab feeding frenzy of U.S. Congressmen, Ukraine, and other special interests begin voraciously grabbing for the $40 Billion U.S. Dollars left out there floating in some international twilight zone.

And then just like that ... *poof* ... it all mysteriously just disappears ... gone overnight ... with no records at all of where it went or who got paid. This is a treasury theft by Congress on a magnificent scale.

And more than likely they will wind up getting away with it.

If the US continues to spend at this rate for war in Ukraine, that projected $554b will be far more than any nation spends for its *entire military*.
