Fertilizer sector set for biggest profits in years on Russia-Ukraine conflict

 Fertilizer makers are set to post their biggest quarterly profits in years, following a supply squeeze of essential crop nutrients due to the Ukraine crisis, according to analysts.

Top fertilizer makers Nutrien Ltd, Mosaic Co and CF Industries are expected to benefit as sanctions on Russia and Belarus, the world’s No. 2 and 3 producers of potash, sent prices of the key fertilizer nutrient to levels not seen since the 2008 food crisis.

“Nutrien, for sure, is going to raise their (earnings) guidance. I’d be shocked if they don’t,” said Joel Jackson, senior analyst at BMO Capital Markets Equity Research.

THE CONTEXT

Prices of potash were already soaring last year on tight supplies after international sanctions on Belarus’ state-owned producer Belaruskali in response to President Alexander Lukashenko’s crackdown against political opponents.

Do the Global Climate Change crybabies realize that some feritizers are made from/with natural gas, aka, Demon Methane?

But, famine and mass starvation is one means to reduce carbon dioxide emmissions from living human beings.  The follow-up issues are the greenhouse gases released during human decompisition, funerary practices, and cremation.  I see the most Earth-friendly option for disposing corpses to be sky burial.

Global famine is not inconsistent with their stated goals.

They are probably so dense as to say farmers should use cow manure, whether appropriate or not, and never become aware of the conflict between that and their position on cow farts and meat consumption. Yes I believe they are just that dumb.

Fertilizer prices were already way up before the Russian invasion.  Profits are up because most ammonia producers are locked up in long-term gas contracts that haven't been hit with rising prices yet.
