Shanghai: Green fences baffle locked down residents

Authorities battling Shanghai's latest Covid outbreak have installed fences to restrict the population's movement.

Green barriers have appeared without warning outside buildings where those inside are forbidden from leaving.

One resident told the BBC a green fence appeared inside his locked-up compound three days ago without any explanation.

For weeks Shanghai's 25 million-strong population has been shut in their homes while officials try to contain the city's worst Covid surge to date.

Images of workers in white hazmat suits sealing entrances to the city's housing blocks and closing off streets with green fencing have spread in recent days on Chinese social media.

Many of the fences, which are around two-metres tall, were installed around buildings designated as "sealed areas" where at least one person has tested positive for Covid-19.

Everyone living inside a "sealed area" is forbidden from setting foot outside their homes whether or not they have the virus..........

uthorities in Beijing are on high alert for a surge in coronavirus cases amid a fresh outcry in Shanghai over buildings blockaded under China’s zero Covid policy.

The number of new cases in the capital rose by 22 on Sunday – all locally transmitted – compared with six the day before, according to official reports. Beijing authorities have so far not taken steps to lock down the capital, but they have ordered a number of gyms and after-school activity providers to suspend in-person classes.

Residents rushed to stockpile food amid rumours of tougher measures in the coming days. Residents of Chaoyang district – the city’s largest area with 3.45 million people – will also have to undergo three coronavirus tests this coming week.....

Someone here the other day floated that those being locked down were predominately old age pensioners.

If true, the whole COVID thing might just be smoke to cover that China's leaders might want to get rid of people who are no longer productive and a burden to the State.

Same could be said for the COVID lockdowns here.  Which group of people were shut down and unable to receive visitors?  Those in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.  Which group was supposedly at the most risk of dying from COVID and vaccines and repeated boosters needed?  Or elderly, senior citizens and those health compromised. Even though nursing homes and assisted living facilities were shutdown -- they still died of COVID. Even though seniors got vaccines, many still died.  Get rid of seniors citizens and the elderly and you get rid of a large population on Medicare and Social Security and the burden of funding those programs is in large part relieved.

You'll never convince me that COVID wasn't inflicted upon our society to control the population in more ways than one.

This was all done by design by China, Soros, Dr. Evil and President Evil. Many of us saw that writing on the wall long, long ago.

Given the lunacy of the one-child rule that was in place for so long, and the fact that it has resulted in a burgeoning population of old people without a sufficient base of young people, that is not that far-fetched of a thought.
