Why Did the DoD Green-Light an $18B Contract for a Company with Russian Ownershident].By Jared WhitleyApril 22, 2022

At a time when our government is trying to neutralize Russian aggression with economic soft power, why is it paying a company with ownership interests in Russia to figure out exactly where all our warfighters live?

That’s the million-dollar question the Government Accountability Office (GAO) needs to answer – or rather the $18 billion question. In November, the United States Transportation Command (TRANSCOM) awarded a contract worth that much to HomeSafe Alliance – a company whose highly questionable foreign ownership includes Russian oligarchs.

The project is for the relocation of household goods for our Armed Forces, both domestic and abroad. When members of the Armed Forces and their families are transferred, they are (of course) not obligated to pay their own moving expenses. Performing this important task for our warfighters has long been challenging, with longstanding problems like shortages of drivers, delays, and lost or damaged belongings. TRANSCOM wants to integrate all these moves for our warfighters under its own umbrella with the hope this will bring accountability and better service to the program, so they created one big contract for it.
