Report: Biden Desperate For Canadian Oil, Just Not Via Keystone XL Pipeline

oil tanker truckerPresident Joe Biden is desperate to increase oil imports from Canada as the nation continues to struggle with high fuel prices — but is determined not to resurrect the Keystone XL pipeline, whose permit Biden canceled on his first day in office in 2021.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Biden administration is seeking to increase Canadian oil imports through rail, which is dirtier and riskier for the environment than pipelines, as Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg has admitted. [bold, links added]

It won't just be Warren Buffett's BNSF RR that brings it in.

Canadian Pacific is buying/merging with Kansas City Southern (a north-south route) and will probably get a good share of the new oil train traffic, as well.

Look at safety records, and tell me how trains are safer than pipelines.

Especially a newly constructed (and well scrutinized) pipeline.

Not so long ago, the Left was having cartwheeling conniptions over rail accidents involving oil tank cars.

The tar sands bitumen (with properties similar to Venezuelan crude) gets blended with lighter oil to get it to move better through pipelines. That will be interesting to stuff in rail cars and, even though the climate where it is headed is warmer, to et it out again.
