One OLD Phone, One New Smart Phone (HELP!!!)
« on: April 05, 2022, 08:32:25 pm »
My neighbor lady was told that her 20 year old LG vx8300 phone was coming to an end in December.
(3g)
Well she saw, and bought one of those bundles on HSN that has 1500 min/dat/text along with a Samsung smartphone.
(A02s)

She wants to keep the same phone number from the old phone and I thought that I could help her.
Yea well ... that ain't working out so well!🙄

All of the "transfer your phone number" instructions I have run across deal with the more modern smartphones, not these 20 year old flip phones!😬

Is there any way to do the "keep your number" change-over on two very different devices?

If any of you can help I will forever be in your debt!👍

Btw: The old phone is on Verizon's services and the new Samsung with the 1500 minutes is a Tracfone bundle which is also owned by Verizon.

As I said, any help will make life a little easier ... For me! Lol

Call  TracPhone Customer Services.
You may need to call Verizon and approve the number release, but not likely.

You will need old SIM or EMEI number(s) from the old phone ready
You will need new SIM or EMEI number(s) from the new phone ready.

It's maybe a half hour call, pretty painless once you get to somebody.

All the new phones have that info on them where you can pull the SIM or EMEI info up.

I can't find them anywhere on this old phone!?

Try removing the battery cover and looking around in there... The SIM chip will be in there too...

No serial won't help much.

See above to get it out of the software.
You will need either SIM or IMEI/EMEI , and hopefully both. The IMEI/EMEI is the best option.

Yeah, I found that same site while searching.

So many steps to find something so simple!☹

If that don't work, you can try #06# for IMEI... but I don't know if that goes back that far

OR, if she happened to save the box the phone came in... The numbers will be on the box.

I know that's almost laughable, but I will bet you my mamma's got that box. It's an old lady thing.

Since both are Verizon phones it should be a simple thing. Take your neighbor and her 2 phones to a Verizon store and ask them to do the switch. That's how I've been switching phones over the ages, but with AT&T. Verizon should be the same.

I took a picture of the tag that sits beneath the battery.
Anything I can use?🥴

Nope. In my old flipper there is a silver sticker that has the just the IMEI number there...

Last gasp: Call verizon and see if they can give you the numbers from their records.

Other than that, I am out of bullets.

Just learned from the Verizon web site that the ESN HEX number that can be seen in the picture is what I need!
In these old phones it wasn't uncommon to use the decimal hex ID in place of the meid #
