GOP Sees Opportunity in 2022 Election to Defeat Blumenthal

Sunday, 03 April 2022 08:35 AM

Connecticut U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal has $7.5 million in campaign cash and enviable name recognition after decades in public office, but Republicans in this Democratic-leaning state still see an opportunity to win a U.S. Senate seat after a roughly 30-year drought.

Top state Republicans are touting Themis Klarides, the former GOP leader in the state House of Representatives, as a formidable challenger with the best chance of capitalizing on the strong national headwinds facing Democrats this election year.

State Democrats remain confident Blumenthal, 76, will win a third six-year term. But if Klarides receives her party's endorsement in May, it will mark the first time Blumenthal has faced a challenge from such a well-known state politician. Klarides served more than two decades in the General Assembly, representing Derby, Orange and Woodbridge, and was the first woman to lead the House Republican caucus before retiring in 2021.

Good - he is one of the slimiest creatures in DC, and he led the demonic attack on Kavanaugh.

No way any one beats Sid Vicious in that Bright Blue hell hole.  I'd put money on it.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

Senate Dem part of High School group that held 'Slave Day', used racial slur repeatedly in college writing
Blumenthal is seeking re-election to the Senate on November 8
By Kyle Morris | Fox News

Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., served as president of the student council at his high school when the group put on a "Slave Day" fundraising event, and he used a term now recognized as racist several times during one of his writings for the student newspaper at Harvard University.

According to images and documentation listed in the 1963 yearbook for Riverdale Country School, a private school located in the Bronx, Blumenthal served as president of the school's student council and attempted to unify the school through a series of fundraising events that called for student participation.

One of the student council's fundraising events, according to the yearbook, was the inaugural "Slave Day" on Nov. 21, 1962. Describing the event, the yearbook said a "large number of Upper School students worked at odd jobs around the neighborhood and helped to raise over two hundred dollars for the drive."  ...

During his time as a writer for the newspaper, Blumenthal used a term that is now considered a racial slur at least seven times in a 1966 article for the newspaper titled "Summer School Project Set for Negro Students," which described a program for African American students to study at Harvard, Yale, and Columbia University in preparation for graduate school. ...
Much as I dislike this guy, I say no deal. My gosh, 60 years ago?!? And the "racial slur" was "Negroes." That was the appropriate terminology at the time, so what?

I agree.  This kinda crap is embarrassing.  And you are correct. "Negro" was the preferred term.  Look at the "AP" style guide from the 1960's.

Stolen valor is enough to reject anyone IMHO.

Just now they're seeing it?  Really?
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

Blumenthal Speaks At Communist Party Awards Ceremony

Event organizers used the ceremony to invite people to join the Communist Party

Chuck Ross  •  December 14, 2021  •  1:45 pm

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D., Conn.) spoke at an awards ceremony over the weekend hosted by a Communist Party affiliate whose leaders used the event to recruit potential members to the organization.

Blumenthal, one of the wealthiest members of the Senate, presented certificates of special recognition from the Senate to three winners of the "Amistad Award," given annually by the Connecticut People’s World Committee, an affiliate of the Communist Party USA and the Marxist People’s World news site.

Blumenthal appeared even as Democratic leaders have downplayed allegations that many in the party support socialist or communist policies. President Joe Biden distanced himself from the left-wing ideologies during the 2020 presidential campaign, at one point bragging that he defeated a socialist, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), in the primaries. Blumenthal used his speech at the ceremony to tout Democratic legislative policies, including voting rights reform, ending the filibuster and the Build Back Better Act, according to the Yankee Institute, a free market think tank in Connecticut that reported details of the event.

Blumenthal was introduced at the event by Lisa Bergmann, a Communist Party member who blamed corporations for the "imperialism that exists in our world that is undermining the labor and environment."

Bergmann and her fellow communist emcee, Ben McManus, issued invitations at the ceremony to join the Communist Party.

"If you are not already part of the Communist Party, we invite you to participate and contribute and join," Bergmann said after Blumenthal's speech. "There's more and more people talking about socialism in this country as it becomes more and more clear that capitalism is not going to work for our future."

"I’m a member of the Communist Party, I love it. I think it’s an amazing organization," said Bergmann, who serves as an organizer for the Young Communist League USA.

McManus echoed Bergmann’s remarks, inviting ceremony viewers "to join the Communist Party in this epic time as we make good trouble to uproot systemic racism, retool the war economy, tax the rich, address climate change, secure voting rights, and create a new socialist system that puts people, peace, and planet before profits."

Blumenthal’s wealth is so vast—one estimate puts it at $100 million—that he has sometimes been unaware of all of his investments, including in a real estate development company linked to the Chinese government. Blumenthal said he was unaware of his investment in U.S. Shanghai LLC., which is listed on his annual financial disclosure  .  .  .

Blumenthal is currently polling around 49%, Levy back around 44.
Gonna take a miracle to unseat him.

I'll do my part, but it's an all-but-lost cause here in Connecticut insofar as "federal-level" offices are involved. Same for high state offices.

Only at local levels can Republicans still win (and that's only in some places).
