... Residents were asked to avoid the area, which is packed with restaurants and bars that leads to the Golden One Center, where the Sacramento Kings play basketball.

Phone messages seeking comment were left with the Sacramento police.

Berry Accius, a community activist, said he came to the scene shortly after the shooting happened.

“The first thing I saw was like victims. I saw a young girl with a whole bunch of blood in her body, a girl taking off glass from her, a young girl screaming saying, ‘They killed my sister.’ A mother running up, ‘Where’s my son, has my son been shot?’“ he said.  ...

Multiple arrests were made at the gathering on Friday
By Andrew Mark Miller | Fox News

The fire department in Santa Barbara, California is responding to an out of control spring break gathering and says "multiple medical emergencies" have been reported.

"SBC Fire has declared an MCI (multi casualty incident) associated with multiple medical emergencies including multiple severe traumas," Santa Barbara Fire Department Public Information Officer tweeted Saturday evening. "These are associated with heavy crowds in Isla Vista for the unsanctioned beach party known as Deltopia. Many balconies are over crowded."

Social media reports indicate a person in a car pulled out an automatic weapon and started shooting into a crowd gathered outside El Santo Restaurant & Ultralounge in the Downtown area of Sacramento. Radio traffic from first responders last indicated at least six people are dead.

Six dead, 10 injured in early morning shooting in downtown Sacramento -police

SACRAMENTO, Calif., April 3 (Reuters) - Six people were killed and 10 injured in an early-morning shooting on a Sacramento, California, street busy with revelers, and police said they were still searching for suspects with no one in custody.

"We are asking for the public's help in helping us to identify the suspects in this and provide any information they can to help us solve this," Sacramento Police Chief Kathy Lester told reporters.

The shooting occurred at about 2 a.m. PT (0900 GMT), Lester said, near the Golden 1 Center, an arena where the Sacramento Kings basketball team plays and concerts take place.

Several blocks were cordoned off by officers and dotted with blue and red plastic cones that marked evidence. Police released no details on the ages or identities of the victims.

Family members waited outside the police lines seeking news about missing loved ones.

Among them was Pamela Harris, who said her daughter had called her at 2:15 a.m. to say that her 38-year-old son, Sergio, had been shot and killed outside a nightclub.......

If I got up tomorrow and read headlines about 6,000 yutes and illegals having been shot in California overnight, I'd just shrug it off and have another bite of breakfast.

It's California, folks.
No longer part of "America" as we remember it.
Nothing that happens there matters -- to those who are concerned about reality, that is.

Time for the northern third of the state to simply declare independence, recall all representatives from the Sacramento government, and go its own way...

2nd Man Arrested on Gun Charges in Sacramento Mass Shooting; Suspect Search Ongoing
Smiley Martin is the brother of Dandrae Martin, who was arrested Monday in connection to the shooting
By Adam Beam and Kathleen Ronayne • Published 28 mins ago   • Updated 14 mins ago

A second suspect was arrested Tuesday in connection to the mass shooting in Sacramento that killed six people and wounded 12 in California's capital, and police say he is the brother of the first suspect.

Smiley Martin, 27, the brother of the first suspect, was arrested while hospitalized with serious injuries from the gunfire. When he is fit for jail, he will be booked for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and possession of a machine gun, a police statement said. ...

The arrests came as the three women and three men killed were identified. The shooting occurred at about 2 a.m. Sunday as bars were closing and patrons filled the streets near the state Capitol. The fallen included a father of four, a young woman who wanted to be a social worker, a man described as the life of the party, and a woman who lived on the streets nearby and was looking for housing.

The Sacramento County coroner identified the women killed as Johntaya Alexander, 21; Melinda Davis, 57; and Yamile Martinez-Andrade, 21. The three men were Sergio Harris, 38; Joshua Hoye-Lucchesi, 32; and De’vazia Turner, 29.  ...

Dandrae Martin was held without bail and was scheduled to appear in Sacramento County Superior Court on Tuesday, according to jail records.

He was freed from an Arizona prison in 2020 after serving just over 1 1/2 years for violating probation in separate cases involving a felony conviction for aggravated assault in 2016 and a conviction on a marijuana charge in 2018. Court records show he pleaded guilty to punching, kicking and choking a woman in a hotel room when she refused to work for him as a prostitute.

It was not immediately clear whether the Martins had attorneys who could speak on their behalf. ...

Gov. @GavinNewsom suggested more gun control would have prevented the mass killing last Sunday, but it wouldn't have. The reason six are dead is because Newsom's appointee let the shooter out of prison *six years* before the end of his sentence

Sacramento Mass Killing Shows Failure of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Crime Agenda
Alleged killer was released from prison six years early. Electronic monitoring, or just keeping him in prison, would have saved six lives

One of the alleged shooters in a mass shooting that killed six people in Sacramento last Sunday was released from prison six years early by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, even though the man has a long and violent criminal record.

The Sacramento District Attorney’s office strongly opposed the man’s early release, claiming, correctly, “If he is released early, he will continue to break the law.” ...

“Despite a two-page letter to the Board of Parole Hearings urging that Martin remain in custody,” reports the Sacramento Bee, he won his release and was in Sacramento on Saturday night recording himself on a Facebook Live video brandishing a handgun hours before the shooting.”   ...

In the crime that led to his 10 year conviction, the man, Smiley Allen Martin, beat up his girlfriend-prostitute, dragged her out of her house by her hair, and whipped her with his belt.  ...

American Military News by Liz George   April 06, 2022

On Tuesday, police said they found a stolen handgun that had been illegally converted into a fully automatic firearm near the bodies of those killed in the mass shooting in Sacramento, California, over the weekend.

While investigators have not released any additional details about the weapons used in the shooting, authorities confirmed that at least one gun discovered at the scene had been “converted to a weapon capable of automatic gunfire,” the Sacramento Bee reported.

Meanwhile, one of the suspects arrested in connection with the deadly shooting posted a Facebook Live video of himself wielding a handgun just hours before the slaying took place, police told The Associated Press.

Smiley Martin, 27, had just been released from prison in February after serving his sentence for dragging his girlfriend home by her hair and beating her with a belt. Martin is the brother of the other suspect who was apprehended on Monday.

Legal Insurrection by Leslie Eastman Wednesday, April 6, 2022

Protesting parole plans, Sacramento DA wrote that suspect Smiley Martin had “absolutely no regard for his victims who are left in the wake of numerous serious offenses.”

As I noted in my report on the mass shooting incident in downtown Sacramento that claimed six lives, police were still on a manhunt for additional suspects.

Two more men have been arrested. One of them is the brother of the first suspect arrested in the case.

Two brothers suspected of being involved in a mass shooting in California that left six dead were under arrest Tuesday.

Detectives probing the apparent gun battle in downtown Sacramento, which erupted as nightclubs were emptying early on Sunday, say both men are suspected of possessing firearms.

One of the men, Smiley Martin, was among 12 people treated in hospital after a shootout in which at least 100 rounds were fired, apparently after a brawl.

Martin, 27, whose injuries are described as “serious,” is suspected of being in possession of a “machine gun,” police said Tuesday, adding he was being guarded by an officer while his medical care continues.

Sacramento mass shooting suspect paid thousands by county weeks before shooting: Report
Emma Colton - Wednesday

One of the Sacramento mass shooting suspects was paid more than $7,000 by the county in a settlement just weeks before the shooting.

Suspect in Sacramento shooting reportedly freed from prison only weeks prior to attack

"The county’s decision to settle was purely economic, as the trial date was approaching and it was likely the trial would be pushed out for many months given the court calendar backup due to COVID. A decision was made to put an end to the case, as the costs going forward would multiply," a county spokesperson said of Martin Smiley's settlement, according to CBS Sacramento.

Smiley Martin has a criminal history dating back to 2013, including his most recent sentencing in 2018 to 10 years in prison for domestic violence and assault with great bodily injury. He was sentenced after he pushed his way into his girlfriend's home, punched her, dragged her from the residence by her hair and whipped her with a belt.

This Feb. 6, 2022, booking photo provided by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation shows Smiley Allen Martin, two days before he was released to Sacramento County probation for his sentence on charges of corporal injury and assault likely to cause great bodily injury. Martin was arrested Tuesday, April 5, 2022, in connection with a mass shooting that killed six people in Sacramento, Calif. Martin is the brother of Dandrae Martin, the first suspect taken into custody in the investigation.
