McConnell says he will oppose Jackson's nomination to the Supreme Court
Fox News, Mar 24, 2022

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., announced Thursday that he will oppose President Biden's first U.S. Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, even after going into the confirmation process with an "open mind."

"After studying the nominee’s record and watching her performance this week, I cannot and will not support Judge Jackson for a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court," McConnell said from the Senate floor.

Of course he will.  What else do Senate Republicans have to offer besides resistance and obstruction?  They have no ideas.

Are you suggesting that he should vote for confirmation?

I haven't been able to watch the hearings.  Why should she be opposed for confirmation?

Her support of packing the Court is a legitimate reason to oppose her.

You do realize that McConnell said he was voting against confirming her, right?

Her support of packing the Court is a legitimate reason to oppose her.

3 bullet point reasons-

1. (and most of all). She is almost an advocate for child pornographers, consistently shortening their sentences vs. court guidelines.
2. Stupidly deflected simple questions like what is a woman.
3. Pretty much is not a judge, but a left wing poltical advocate hiding behind the race card.

At this point, it's all just posturing.

There is virtually NO chance that any Democrat will vote against this nominee, even Manchin and Sinema.

That's true, but the nomination still has to make it out of committee, and for that, at least one Republican has to vote to advance the nomination from the committee to the full Senate.

You might be on to something.  From my vantage point she pissed off all 11 GOP committee members at some point during the hearings.

Let's hope the GOP committee members can all be reminded of Franklin's adage:  if we don't hang together, we shall most assuredly hang separately.

You're right - there is that possibility.

Unfortunately, it's a very slim possibility.  All it will take is one feckless GOP'er who thinks he's going to get plaudits from the pundits for being "moderate" and "reasonable" and voting this abortion of a nomination through.

The GOP has a week to dig up something that may sway one of them.  If they can, this would be the first rejection since Bork.   Now that Turtle has given his blessing to hit the "No" button, I am guessing she gets zero republican senate votes.  She'll need to run the table on the democrats and get cackles to break the tie.

What are the GOP ideas for:

- Federal payroll tax reform
- Passing legislation to prevent amnesty for illegal immigrants
- Domestic manufacturing policy
- Domestic energy policy
- Domestic GDP growth agenda and policy
- Supply chain diversification and de-risking policies
- Breaking up monpolistic, duopolist, oligarchial media and technology companies
- Policy to pursuing arbitration with unfair trade partners
- limiting or eliminating H1-B visas
- vocational skills education, training, and advancement

I'd like to see a new Contract with America.

All good items, but what does that have to do with whether McConnell has said he will vote "no" on confirming Judge Jackson?

The closest thing you mention was prepared by Senator Scott of FL.  It was discussed on another thread, and if I remember my critique I thought it was weak on enviro-whacko-ism, and Energy Independence.

Energy Independence is barely mentioned, but IMO it should be showcased as Priority 1.

You can form your own opinion.....

Probably Cornyn or Sasse. Thank God that Romney isn't on that Committee.

As big of a RINO Cornyn is, he still represents Texas.  I'd be shocked if he defected.

FYI, per FOX News:

In the case united GOP opposition to Jackson in committee – which is split 11-11 in the evenly divided chamber – Senate Democrats can still bring her nomination to the floor through a process called a discharge motion. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., can make that motion as early as the day after the tied committee vote, and immediately after the Senate could move onto the nomination.

Thanks for the update.  I hope we see the mother of all filibusters if he tries to pull that off.

If he pulls that off, Brown will the be the first SCOTUS justice in history confirmed by a Non-majoriy party with a straight line party vote.....

11-11
Likely 51-50.

That should be a good start to her legacy.

In other words, forcing through a minority "confirmation".
