Chinese airliner carrying 132 people crashes
By Joseph Choi - 03/21/22 08:06 AM EDT

A Boeing 737-800 airliner operated by China Eastern Airlines crashed in southern China on Monday, with reports indicating that none of the 132 people on board survived.

China Eastern Airlines flight MU5735 was travelling from Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan province, to Guangzhou, capital city of Guangdong, Reuters reported. While flying at a cruising altitude, the plane appeared to descend very suddenly. The cause of the crash has yet to be determined.

Flight tracking website FlightRadar24 reported on Twitter that the flight began dropping by 31,000 feet per minute early on Monday morning.

Local Chinese media reported that the plane had disintegrated and caused a fire destroying bamboo trees in the area.

"China Eastern Airlines has activated the emergency mechanism, dispatched a working group to the scene, and opened a special line for emergency assistance to family members," the airline said on social media.

Both the websites for China Eastern Airlines and Boeing have changed to black-and-white in response to the crash.

What made MU5735 fall out of the sky? Catastrophic 'loss of control event' made Chinese Boeing 737 with 132 people aboard nosedive 30,000ft at 350mph into a mountainside in China with 'no survivors'

China Eastern plane smashed into countryside near Wuzhou city, Guangxi region, and 'caused a mountain fire'
Rescuers were reportedly dispatched but there was no immediate confirmation of numbers dead and injured
Shocking CCTV footage emerged on social media showing the jet racing vertically towards the ground today
Data indicates a vertical descent of 31,000ft per minute or around 350 mph before it crashing into mountains
China Eastern has confirmed fatalities after the crash and expressed 'deep condolences'
President Xi Jinping said he was 'shocked' over the incident and immediately ordered a probe into the cause
The plane, flight number MU5735 from Kunming to Guangzhou, is believed to be a Boeing 737-89P, not a MAX

The Flight Channel does interesting video recreations of aircraft crashes, with explanations for what went wrong. As I recall, some of them involved planes that nosedived.

Pilot of doomed Chinese flight ‘may have regained consciousness and tried to save the plane’ before the Boeing 737-800 slammed into mountainside killing all 132 onboard, expert says, as desperate families continue to wait for news

An expert said the pilot may have 'regained consciousness' in a last ditch attempt to save the plunging plane
It was confirmed late Monday all 132 people on board, among them 123 passengers and nine crew, have died

Desperate families are waiting for news after a Chinese Boeing 737-800 smashed into a mountainside, killing all 132 on board, as experts say the pilot 'may have regained consciousness' after G-forces knocked out the crew 'and tried to save the plunging plane'.

China Eastern has grounded all of its Boeing 737-800 aircraft today after 132 people died when their passenger jet crashed in China this morning after suddenly nose-diving and plummeting 30,000ft in two minutes and hitting the ground at 350mph.

However, more than 18 hours after communication was lost with the plane, families of the passengers and crew members were left waiting to hear more information about the disaster.

Local villagers were the first to arrive at the crash site on Monday, where the aircraft sparked a fire large enough to be captured on NASA satellite images.

Hundreds of rescue workers were subsequently dispatched from Guangxi and the neighbouring Guangdong province.

Relatives of crew members have also arrived at a China Eastern office near the Kunming airport where the plane took off, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

The broadcaster says China Eastern has set up nine teams to deal with disposal of the plane, accident investigation, family assistance and other pressing issues.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and China Eastern both say they have sent officials to the crash site.

State media reported all 737-800s in the airline's fleet were ordered grounded following the crash. The model is the predecessor to the controversial 737 Max model but is regarded as safe despite a series of crashes over its long history.

Speaking to The Sun Online, aviation expert Sally Gethin said flight data suggests there was a "10 to 20-second spell where one or more of the pilots regained consciousness and tried to save the plane" before it smashed inthe the ground.

All of those on board "would have been unconscious" for this final plunge, Gethin suggests.

The plane, flight number MU5735 from Kunming to Guangzhou, got into trouble over the city of Wuzhou, before it plummeted 29,100ft into a mountainside on Monday

Altitude data also appears to show aircraft regain height at around 7,5000ft before beginning its final descent, although commentators have warned the figures could be anomalies

I dunno about "plummeted" - that looks more like a power dive.

‘Human-Induced Event’: Experts Reveal Horrifying Likely Causes Of Boeing 737 That Plunged Into Ground
By  Ryan Saavedra
Mar 22, 2022

Experts have started to speculate about the causes of a horrifying plane crash that was caught on camera on Monday that showed a China Eastern Airlines Boeing 737-800 crashing vertically into the ground.

Flightradar24 released data from the flight that showed the aircraft was cruising at just over 29,000 feet when it then plunged more than 20,000 feet in under a minute before later slamming into the ground. Rescue crews have not been able to locate any survivors of the more than 130 people that were on board the flight.

“Even with total loss of power, no aircraft plummets to the ground from 20,000 feet in two minutes with an event at 8,000 feet,” Australian aviation expert Neil Hansford told News.com.au. “I think aircraft technical failure can be ruled out and it will be an external event … I would get on a Boeing 737-800 in an instant with an Australian carrier, so my suggestion would be it won’t be Boeing or aircraft technical related.”

“It is very unlikely the pilot passed out as the non-flying pilot would have been able to very safely take over the flying and land the aircraft,” he continued. “Likely scenarios include pilot suicide, aircraft mid-air collision with military aircraft (they don’t have transponders like civil aircraft), [flight MU5735] was struck by a missile or an on-board explosion. My tipping is a human-induced event or bought down by rogue missile. Debris looks like MH117 over Ukraine, and the Chinese are providing too much information this time which is uncharacteristic.” ... That second graph above looks like someone in the cockpit started the power dive, somewhere around 8k feet someone else got into the cockpit and there was a struggle, and finally, the struggle was unsuccessful, and the first person completed the power dive into the ground.

Chinese local domestic terrorism is my thought.
