    The city and the police union have been locked in a dispute over the mandate
    Last week, an arbitrator dealt a final blow to the police union when it refused to reconsider its claims and lifted a pause on the mandate
    The union argued that the rules violate its collective bargaining agreement
    Officers had until March 13 to get their first shot and April 13 for their second one
    About 2,800 police officers and 300 firefighters haven't gotten a COVID shot
    As of December, 6,621 officers had applied for religious exemptions, but only 1.5 percent of them were granted

Chicago city workers who don't have their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, a group that includes about 2,800 cops, will be placed on nondisciplinary no-pay status on Sunday after the city won another court battle over its mandate last week.

The city will consider disciplining workers on a case-by-base basis, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said Friday.

'All city employees, including Chicago police officers, who fail to comply may also face disciplinary action, up to and including termination. These decisions will be addressed at an individual and department level, and are being undertaken in a manner that will not impact public safety or the continuity of everyday government operations,' the mayor said.

About 2,800 Chicago police officers and 300 firefighters remain unvaccinated, according to WGN.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, a Democrat who proposed cutting a huge $80 million from the Chicago Police Department budget in 2020, has a personal police unit consisting of a whopping 71 officers to protect her, and blamed some of her personal need for protection on former President Trump, telling the Chicago Sun-Times, “When the president of the United States uses the world’s largest megaphone and platform to target you personally, terrible things happen. And he not only blew a dog whistle, he pointed really evil and dangerous people right at my doorstep.”

The special unit, named Unit 544, now is comprised of 65 officers, five sergeants and a lieutenant, but that’s not all; “Lightfoot also has a separate personal bodyguard detail, which includes about 20 officers, the records show,” The Sun-Times noted. ...
