Lawyer up, Republicans
President Donald John Trump fixed the courts. The Supreme Court is now 6-3 conservative. This means we no longer have to rely on the chief justice's weathervane to protect the Constitution. The lower courts are better, and another round of appellate court appointments with a Republican Senate and Republican president should remove most of the remaining stain of the judiciary that Obama made.
Now to make good use of the Trumpian Court.
Republicans need to vet, recruit, and prepare for battle about 1,000 lawyers for service beginning January 20, 2025.
I am not saying we should take winning in 2024 for granted. Far from it. Republicans will need to battle for every ballot in every state not named West Virginia.
But Republicans need to be prepared to hit the ground running on Inauguration Day by replacing all the lifers in the Department of Justice as well as all the staff attorneys in all the other departments. We need them and the Cabinet secretaries ready to rock and roll from the get-go.
McConnell's foot-dragging left President Trump at the mercy of Sally Yates and other insurrectionists. Their resistance was nothing but a fancy name for sedition.
