Dr. Oz in 2019 on Alabama's heartbeat bill:  "If you want to define life by a beating heart, than make it a beating heart, not little electrical changes in a cell that nobody here would think about as a heart."

Dr. Oz continued: "If the litmus test is a heart beating, than make it the heart beating. Don't make some surrogate version when cells are having an electrical path... The average person isn't envisioning an acorn heart beating in there."

I don't know whether this guy will be any more of a Republican than the doc, but it should make things interesting.

HARRISBURG — George Bochetto, a prominent Philadelphia lawyer and Republican whose cases have often landed in the public spotlight, said Thursday that he is seriously considering running for Pennsylvania’s open U.S. Senate seat.

In a brief interview, Bochetto, 69, said he is “looking at it very, very seriously and it’s very likely” that he will decide to run. Bochetto has considered running for mayor many times in the heavily Democratic city of Philadelphia, and ran briefly in 1999 before ending his candidacy.

In August, Bochetto won a judge’s ruling preventing the city of Philadelphia from removing a 144-year-old statue of Christopher Columbus in a dispute that highlighted tensions over views of exploration, Italian American history and colonialism that changed the lives and cultures of native people.

Bochetto also helped write the defense brief in former President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial earlier this year, he said.

The Republican primary field for U.S. Senate is in flux, with Mehmet Oz — best known as the host of TV’s “Dr. Oz Show” — saying that he’s moved from New Jersey to run and David McCormick, CEO of one of the world’s largest hedge funds, moving from Connecticut in anticipation of running, advisers say.   ...

It appears Mr. Bochetto is the only actual Pennsylvanian interested in running. That's weird.

Mehmet Oz, the celebrity cardiologist who recently ended his daytime TV “Dr. Oz Show” to run for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania, will be honored Friday with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame — just as he is being attacked 2,000 miles away in a rival's TV ad saying he's too “Hollywood.” The award underscores how successful Oz was before he gave up his TV show to run for public office. That same career, however, is being used against him by rivals who are picking apart his TV shows and past as a self-styled wellness advocate to fuel doubt about his conservative credentials as a Republican.  ...

As rivals try to raise doubts about his true political leanings, they are pointing to his show's episode on “red flag laws” opposed by gun-rights advocates and his advocacy of former President Barack Obama's health care law, Obamacare.  ...
