So Americans died in the raid?
That bird looks like it did not come down easy...I don't think we are getting the whole story, here.

‘Incredibly Complex’: The US Raid That Killed IS Chief Qurashi
Staff Writer With AFP February 3, 2022

By early December US intelligence was certain: the man occupying the top floor of a nondescript house in Atme, northern Syria — who never left the premises, emerging only to bathe on the roof — was the head of the Islamic State group.

In the White House Situation Room, a table-top model of the house was set up, and President Joe Biden was briefed on his options to neutralize Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurashi, one of America’s most wanted jihadist targets.

US officials say they could have easily killed Qurashi — whose location they had narrowed down last year before pinpointing it — with a precision missile.

Biden chose a riskier course, said a senior US official briefing reporters Thursday, to reduce the possibility of killing the civilians also living in the three-level cinderblock home, set amid olive trees near the Turkish border.

And yet, they still ended up getting killed, so what was the point of that?

In other words, U.S. mishaps killed the civilians, not the terrorist himself.

I have not seen anything which suggests Americans being killed.  But with a lying administration, that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Islamic State’s ‘ghost’ leader was plotting comeback when U.S. commandos cornered him

Abu Ibrahim al-Qurayshi was the second person to lead the Islamic State in its current incarnation, and his death was nearly identical to that of his predecessor.

People inspect a destroyed house following an operation by the U.S. military in the Syrian village of Atmeh, in Idlib province, Syria, on Thursday.

Captured Islamic State fighters described him as a “ghost,” a mysterious and nearly invisible leader with little practical sway over his weakened terrorist organization. Rivals questioned his credentials and reviled him as a turncoat who ratted out his comrades during a stint in a U.S. military prison.

But the Islamic State chief dubbed Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi also was known as a survivor, one who had weathered multiple setbacks and defeats. In recent months he had been plotting a comeback, U.S. officials and terrorism experts say, including a second act for the violent Islamist self-declared caliphate that had terrorized the region and, along with its affiliates, other parts of the world until its destruction three years ago.

Those plans abruptly ended in the predawn hours Thursday, when a U.S. Special Operations team assaulted his safe house in northwestern Syria. As commandos attacked the three-story villa, Qurayshi detonated a bomb that killed him and his family, including several children, U.S. officials said.

“This horrible terrorist leader is no more,” President Biden said in a televised statement announcing the successful raid.

U.S. Military Offers New Details on Raid That Led to Death of ISIS Leader
February 11, 2022

By late December, the commandos had been prepared and Mr. Biden accepted the mission. However unhealthy climate in northwestern Syria and a need to hold out the mission on a moonless night time pushed the operation to Feb. 2.

The American assault in Atmeh, backed by Apache helicopter gunships and armed MQ-9 Reaper drones, resembled the raid in October 2019 through which Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the earlier chief of the Islamic State, died when he detonated a suicide vest as U.S. forces raided a hide-out not removed from the place final week’s operation came about.

American officers alerted Israel, Turkey and Russia, which has troops primarily based in northwestern Syria, shortly earlier than the mission was underway to keep away from any unintentional contact, the officers stated.

Pentagon Confirms Women and Children Dead in U.S. Special Forces Syria Raid

U.S. Special Forces operators were involved in an action that killed 13 people, including women and children, during an airborne counterterrorism raid in northwestern Syria across the early hours of Thursday morning.

@mystery-ak

Ok,we need some clarification,here.

There is only ONE "US Special Forces",and they are members of the US Army.

Units like SEALS (US Navy) and "Force Recon" (USMC) are often identified in the press as "Special Forces",but all that shows you is the press is too stupid to learn anything.

Seems like these days,it is the Navy SEALS that specialize in these raids,but that doesn't stop the dimwits in the press from identifying them as "Special Forces".

So,who was it?

BTW,what USUALLY happens in these raids is that the women and children are murdered by their husbands/fathers/brothers as the male,NOT "the man" of the family,blows himself up to prevent capture.

Not that this little factoid keeps the press from saying they were killed in the raid,which implies it was the US forces conducting the raid that killed them.

And even though I have been out of the army since 1970,I DEEPLY resent the implication that members of the US military elite units purposely murder unarmed women and children.

It just does NOT happen. They are murdered by the men in their own families.

He killed himself?  That's a bummer.

That's like going to a Nevada brothel to masturbate.  Seems like the end could have been accomplished with less risk and fewer resources.

@DefiantMassRINO

It could have,and it would have been easier,cheaper,and put US forces at MUCH less risk.

All it would have take was a 3 man team with a lazer spotter and a radio to guide a missile in.

That wouldn't get the WH the positive press they need,though. They need the implication that Joe Dementia was the master-mind behind the plan.

So Americans died in the raid?

@Cyber Liberty

No. According to other sources I have read,the helicopter crashed/had a forced landing due to some sort of mechanical issue,and since they couldn't fix and fly it away,they blew it up in place.

This is a common practice to keep the enemy from acquiring the weapons and supplies on the aircraft.
