Comedian Whoopi Goldberg has been suspended from ABC’s The View for her comments about the Holocaust, for which she apologized, though few people could describe in plain English what, exactly, she said that was antisemitic, or offensive.

The most widely-reported remark was that the Holocaust was not about “race,” and she was corrected on-air by co-host Joy Behar.

The Holocaust was indeed about “race,” the way that the Nazis understood it. Germans were thought to be members of a superior, Aryan race, and Jews were said to be an inferior race that compensated for its weakness by inventing ideas and systems that prevented the Aryans and others from achieving their evolutionary potential. This was said to be “science.”

But in context, what Goldberg meant was that Jews did not suffer because of their skin color, which is what “race” means in an American context. She also said that the Holocaust was “white people doing it to white people.”

That obscured the fact that Nazi ideology also claimed black people were inferior, and minimized the universal moral implications of the Holocaust — which Goldberg herself affirmed, moments later, by describing the Holocaust as being about “man’s inhumanity to man.”

What we are left with is a hodgepodge of comments, made in the final moments before a commercial break. It is not clear what Goldberg was thinking. But elements of what she said are common in popular misconceptions about the Holocaust. ...

People can argue the it was race not race reasoning all they want, here's the way I see it, HITLER killed the Jews because HE believed they were an inferior race and that's the only reality that matters. Hitler also took the opportunity to kill anyone that dared disagree with him no matter they were non Jew Germans or any other nationality or race. Many a German that dared to speak out against Hitler found themselves in prison if they were lucky or sent to the concentration camps along with the Jews.

Whoopi’s insulting anti-Semitic fried chicken recipe for charity cookbook comes back to haunt her

Actress Whoopi Goldberg’s anti-Semitic “Jewish-American Princess Fried Chicken” recipe that mocks a Jewish housewife has resurfaced after she was suspended from “The View” for inappropriate and offensive comments over race and the Holocaust.

Goldberg submitted a cringy recipe in 1993 to a charity cookbook titled “Cooking in the Litchfield Hills” that is coming back to haunt her. The Daily Mail obtained a copy of the cookbook which contains dishes such as Diane Sawyer’s “roasted potato skins with scallion dip,” Eartha Kitt’s “summer zucchini soup with nasturtium blossoms,” Oscar de la Renta’s “fresh pumpkin and crab soup,” former U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman’s “noodle pudding,” and fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg’s “sour cream stuffed chicken with new potatoes.”

There are other traits besides skin color.  The Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, and Mongolians all have the same skin color.  But the Japanese considered the other three inferior and worthy of slave labor due to their ethnicity.

This wasn't about tribal separation.  German Jews fought valiantly for Germany in WWI as German citizens.  They were every bit a German as every other person born in Germany.  And even more so than the Austrian-born Hitler.  But Hitler was deemed German by race and not by birth - the same racial qualifier that stripped German Jews of their German citizenship.
