650 km Wintertime Trip With VW E-Car Took 13 Hours, 3 Recharges And Lots Of Warm Clothes

Consumers’ expectations for e-cars are still unrealistic…can’t hold a candle to conventional combustion engine vehicles.

When it comes to performance parameters like fuel consumption, car manufacturers’ brochures often boast figures that in reality are only possible under really ideal conditions. But rarely are such conditions the case in real life. The result: disappointed consumers.

Electric cars are notorious for their limited range and need of constant recharging – factors that are often overestimated by buyers. Recently German auto reporter Lisa Brack put her brand new electric car through a long distance, wintertime test. The result was hardly thrilling.

“The result is sobering – she saves time by consistently freezing,” reported the German kreiszeitung.de here, on Ms. Brack’s test.

EVs really only make sense in urban and suburban areas, for short-duration trips.

Most taxis in NYC were, at one point, Ford Crown Vics running the 4.6L V-8.  It's a great engine and all, but seriously, idling a V-8 in NYC stop-and-go traffic makes about as much sense as using an EV to make a cross-country trip.

It makes sense that it makes no sense.  It is being proposed by democrats so how could it make sense?

In other words, centralized "one-size-fits-all" Democrat Party regulation doesn't work.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

In fact, the use of the Ford CV as the only available car for taxis in NYC was itself the product of NYC (i.e., democrat) regulation, since only approved vehicles with fleet-use certification could be used; at one point in time, that meant either the Ford CV or the Chevy Caprice, and once the Chevy bit the dust, only Ford CVs.

So, I guess the soon to be mandate for everyone to buy 2 $80K+ cars, one electric and one gas, will be the way out of that pandemic?
