Newly-elected Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman said he will defy Governor Kathy Hochul’s statewide mask mandates, halting enforcement for indoor venues while calling on individual school boards to craft their own policies about face coverings.

“We don’t need people in Albany telling us what we should be doing in Nassau County,” Blakeman said at a press conference Thursday. “The message is: the wearing of masks is optional.”

The move will likely set up a legal stand-off between Blakeman and Hochul, who ordered a mask mandate for schools over the summer, and recently reinstated a rule requiring indoor businesses to require either vaccinations or masks.

Long Island county overrides NY Governor's mask mandate

JAZZ SHAW  |  Jan 08, 2022  |  8:31 AM ET

As an early New Year’s present, New York Governor Kathy Hochul issued a renewed face mask mandate for all public schools. Numerous upstate counties with more conservative officials immediately announced that they would not be complying with the order, while New York City quickly embraced the idea. But not all of the Big Apple is quite as blue as it was prior to the last set of local elections. This week, Nassau County on Long Island also bucked the trend. Newly elected county executive Bruce Blakeman announced that schools in his county would not be subject to the mandate and each local school board would be left to decide whether the policy should be implemented or not. At this point, a majority of New York counties are simply ignoring the Governor’s order and there doesn’t seem to be anything she can do about it.  .  .  .

Exactly.  Do not allow them unconstitutional authority by acquiescing to their unconstitutional orders
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-
