  • WE are NOT ok!
IMHO, this is pretty serious, not so much because of the new variant, but because the Delta variant is still circulating and Sloe Joe in his infinite wisdom shutdown distribution of the antibody treatment.  Interesting that he declared a winter of death ... but wasn't that before the Omicron variant was known??

I am glad we are retired.  We are back to not going out unless we have to.  I opt to wear a mask in crowds. Sanitizer is in my purse and in my car.

The Covid-19 case surge is altering daily life across the US. Things will likely get worse, experts warn

The US is ringing in the new year amid a Covid-19 surge experts warn is exploding at unprecedented speed and could alter daily life for many Americans during the first month of 2022.
"Omicron is truly everywhere," Dr. Megan Ranney, a professor of emergency medicine at Brown University's School of Public Health, told CNN on Friday night. "What I am so worried about over the next month or so is that our economy is going to shut down, not because of policies from the federal government or from the state governments, but rather because so many of us are ill."
The nation broke records at least four times this week for its seven-day average of new daily Covid-19 cases, reporting an all-time high of more than 386,000 new daily infections Friday, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University. The high case count is already causing disruptions in the country.

US shatters its average daily Covid-19 case record again. Experts describe coming weeks as a 'tidal wave' and 'blizzard'
In New York City, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is plagued with staffing issues and announced three subway lines -- the B, Z and W -- which service various parts of the boroughs, have been suspended.

"Like everyone in New York, we've been affected by the COVID surge. We're running as much train service as we can with the operators we have available," the MTA wrote on Twitter Thursday.

New York continues to break its own record, adding 85,476 reported Covid-19 cases, according to Saturday's briefing from New York Gov. Kathy Hochul.
Hospitalizations jumped to 8,451, up from around 8,000 in the report released Friday, according to the latest data. The state's seven-day positivity rate is 19.79%.

The number of one day case additions has increased 219% since Monday, when the state reported an addition of 26,737 cases.
Healthcare services -- exhausted after several surges of the virus and now stretched thin again by a growing number of Covid-19 patients -- are also already feeling impacts. The University of Maryland Capital Region Health this week joined a growing list of medical centers in the state to activate emergency protocols after a sharp rise in cases fueled staffing shortages and overwhelmed emergency departments. ................

Here in West Virgina we've pretty much had it with the lies. Life is being lived normally among most people. About the only place you'll see a mask is visiting a medical facility. It may be different on the DC side of the state, but here in the coal fields and SW WV, we are doing just fine without their absurd rules and fear mongering.

I'm sorry, but I can't take any of this seriously when they use value-laden hysterical language like that. It is not medical terminology, it's the language of fear porn, and it sounds like Chicken Little.

They can report the increased number of "cases" all they want, but the bottom line is that what's going around now is not as serious as the original or Alpha Covid-19 of early 2020, and it's not the freakin' Spanish flu. I'm like ironhorsedriver, although in a different part of WV - we don't build our lives around the latest fear mongering. The only place I'll wear my useless cloth mask is the local hospital, if I have to go there for a medical appointment. The sad thing is that I'd be in compliance with my little single-layer 100% cotton homemade mask, even though any doctor in the house who wants to be honest about it knows it will do nothing to protect anyone.

Wait a minute. If the "blizzard" is Omicron cases, are they counting people who catch the bug in hospital, or just those who are in hospital because of the bug?

If they are overwhelmed, maybe they should consider letting staff back who haven't been jabbed.
That's a self-inflicted wound.

If Omicron is mild, as accounts say, then "cases" isn't a problem, so much. If lots of people have tested positive, obviously, lots of people have been tested. Is this a record number of testees (not to be confused with the single 'e' variety)?

There's a blizzard, alright, (AKA "snow Job") going on...

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I am glad we are retired.  We are back to not going out unless we have to.  I opt to wear a mask in crowds. Sanitizer is in my purse and in my car.

The "Winter of serious illness and death for the unvaxxed" was in his Merry Effin' Christmas Address, and Omicon was already a thing.

Yet another of millions of threats concocted by the Democrat Media Machine.  Lies, all lies.  What is not a lie is the far-left government can be counted on to screw up the economy even worse than last year.  Get your 500-roll orders for toilet paper ready.  I'm pretty sure your pantry is stocked already....
For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16
I will NOT comply.

Worse than either of your alternatives:  they are counting cases detected in hospital, which includes in because of the bug, caught in hospital, and came or taken to hospital for something completely unrelated with a COVID infection detected on admission, whether it's asymptomatic, just the sniffles, just a headache (to mention two common omicron symptoms) or actually serious.
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

The tube of 'horse paste' (oral) is under $5. There is enough for five doses for a 250 lb. human in there. No spike required.

Who are these experts and why do we call them that after nearly two years of them being wrong and offering no meaningful, working solutions for resuming normal life with no muzzles or separation?

Out here in NW Montana, things are basically normal except at medical and federal facilities where the big lie continues unabated as if the rest of everywhere were doing likewise.

I am interested where the fear porn is actually still in full effect - My whacko liberal sister recently moved to Grand Rapids Mich. from Chicago, and she is utterly appalled at how many people are unvaxxed and unmasked - And that is Grand Rapids - a fairly liberal Michigan town... I dare say da Yoopers would give her a heart attack.

It makes me wonder, what with twitter banning people for speaking out and fecebook hiding posts, just how many people are actually buying what they are selling.

Remember, the Bolsheviks named their Party "the majority party", even though they were not, and I'm wondering if the same gambit isn't in play.

That's kinda what I am getting at... Just like the lawlessness they tried to invoke... My dingbat sister thinks that lawlessness is everywhere - even though it is confined to several liberal enclaves. Dare I say this is much the same? Everywhere I have people, no one is paying mind to this plandemic.

As compared to the normal yearly flu? 386K is a bit more 1/10th of 1% of the current US population. That's like a company who employs 1000 people and ONE person calls in sick.

This is fearmongering propaganda.

Yeah. Menards put up a sign recommending masks for the vaccinated (but not requiring them), and demanding the unvaxxed wear them. Being scientifically aware of the relative efficacy of those things, especially the ones worn as a muzzle of chinstrap, I just walk in like I own the joint and have never had a problem.

They are legally proscribed from asking me about my medical history by HIPAA, and if they want to make an issue of it, I will just take my business elsewhere. Still, maybe one person in ten is masked, aside from the help. Same at Wallyworld (WalMart)

I have noticed those disposable blue masks are the big litter item, now, outpacing just about everything but "walmart tumbleweeds" (rogue plastic grocery bags). If those are really catching viruses (in or out or both), then why aren't they being treated as a biohazard?
I'm pretty sure I could put together a cleanup company tout suite, and cash in on that. I know enough people who have done community service (experienced roadside cleanup crew) to be able to fill crews (as long as I pay cash).

IF the nooze accounts are correct, then the panic seems to be an urban (blue zone) problem, which I can kinda understand, considering sardine can like population density, a lot of shared air, and confined spaces would contribute to transmission of any bug. Add in the Media and politicians and totalitarians pining for an edict, and it all comes together real nice for anyone except those who long to be free.
Besides, their numbers are impressive because they often have more people living on one block than many small towns (and some whole counties) have out here. I'm sure that's scary and all that, but it is no scientific reason to try and impose high population density authoritarianism on areas where humans are outnumbered by jackrabbits 100 to one.

Now, I understand there is a significant proportion of the population that just can't comprehend looking out across miles of grass and little else, with few signs of human habitation, but I'm one of those kids who grew up asking my mother "What's a block?" when the guy on the teevee said "Be the first kid on your block to get...", and frankly, that's a level of rurality I am comfortable with.
It's nice to have neighbors, but not within rifle range....
