Holy CRAP! Is that a real photo of a cactus? I had no idea they grew that tall.

It's a shoop, but yes, they do grow that tall. Taller than a house.

Believe it or not, several people are killed every year trying to steal saguaro cactus from the desert.
Mostly landscapers looking to sell them on the black market. But homeowners too trying to dress up their yard.
Saguaros are very slow growing. The one in the picture is likely well over a hundred years old and weighs several thousand pounds.
And that is the point. The poachers underestimate the weight and when they get it loose and it falls on them, that is lights out.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

Which is grievously illegal.  The government (used to at least) will come to the desert if anybody reports an empty Saguaro "socket"and take DNA samples.  If you have a Saguaro in your yard and you don't have the proper tags for it, and the DNA matches, it's a multi-thousand dollar fine.

And that one in the picture weighs several tons (if it's not a shoop).  They store a lot of water!

It is 'grievously' illegal even to damage a saguaro. If someone is caught using them as target practice (which people do for some reason) or just chopping at them for no particular reason, they will likely go to jail. Arizona loves their desert fauna and are very protective of it. If there is a desert landscaping motif around a business or residence, they are required to have documentation as to from whom and where all of it originated.

That is 100% correct.  We understand that cactus is a very slow growing plant, and Saguaros are 75 years old when they develop the first branches.  I've see my share of 150 year old Saguaros.

I had a barrel cactus in my yard in Phoenix and it took about 20 years to double in size. It was 3 feet across when I moved away.  Thankfully I have a barrel that size in the front of the Castillo.
